I just got a JP7 with an all-rosewood neck lately - i don't believe there is better neck out there. Plus, it meets all your other criteria.

If your looking for a custom build, I bet David McNaught could build you something in your price range. He's a one man operation now, so the entire build would be done by him.

I played a KM-7 at Nammand loved it. It feltand played better than most of the other high dollar axes. Totaly smoked the Mayos I played.

If you havent decided yet, depending on your tuning I highly recommend seeing if an extended scale is good for you.

There are serious articles that explain the science but in a nutshell. The lower you tune, the longer the scale you need to obtain good harmonic content.

IMO I can tell the difference and it sounds 100x better. I got a 27" scale guitar and the inharmonicities are amazing.

That KM7 is a slightly larger scale (not much) and I have heard it is a great guitar.

There is also some older Ibanez 7 with an extended scale out there somewhere (it is rare and id have to re-research)

It is not the end all be all and you can get away with a 25.5'' perfectly fine. But if you played a 27" and have any kind of an ear you will hear the difference.

I finally pulled the trigger on a Dean RC7 from The Axe Palace. Thanks to everyone that responded. It's a 26.5" scale length. Plays great. Single humbucker, Floyd Pro. Silver painted finish. Price was right at $2500.00

congrats on the RC7, I don't know how much playing time you got into it, but please give us a review.
I really love my RC7, the neck is just magic, those big assed 6100 frets are great too.
I'm curious about the 26.5", it seems like rusty was really set on 25.5" scale lenght.

This particular guitar was the first Dean RC7 to be built with that scale length, it was custom ordered that way by Nick at The Axe Palace. I have very little play time on it yet, but I'll let you know. The neck is incredible, thin and flat. Feels great. It's still up on his web site, so if you wanna see pics visit the Axe Palace site...it's the silver single humbucker RC7.

Just saw it on the site. have to let us know how you like the pickups and the longer scale length.

The USA dean stuff is top notch. I haves several custom shop jobs from them.

Glad you did the rusty Cooley guitar. Please beat it hard and tell me what you think.

Like a red headed step-child... LOL.

Picking it up today (they gave it a set up and changed the strings), will plug it into the Herbert, MarkIII, and Triple Rectum frier tonight...

TOTALLY gassing for a Colossus though...starting to save now...

I'll probably take that pickup out and put a Duncan Distortion (my go to heavy pickup) in. I'll also swap the volume pot with a 1 Meg Ohm, and maybe go up to a 2 Meg Ohm...we'll see...

The scale length doesn't bother me, I have an old Kramer Spector bass (4 string) that I've been playing for years...

Sick, congrats man. I've been curious about those RC7s and Nick is always telling me about how much he loves them. He has a few he ordered as his personal guitars too and they are breathtaking.

He's a great guy to deal with too, helped me with my Parker custom and G&L custom.

If USA-made is non-negotiable, you can't beat Carvin for the price/quality/options.

This. Carvin has some nice models. You can customize your build on the website which is great.

Pauly, hit up Nick from the Axe Palace on those Deans. He's a dealer and has a bunch of cool ones; he'd prob work a deal.

I am in Axe Palace all the time. If you're ever in the area, I'd make a trip in. Nick is a super cool dude. The problem is, when I'm in there to buy tubes, I get depressed looking at all the guitars they have on the wall that I can not buy.

I'm not going there again, unless I have 10k in my pocket.

That's where I bought my Herbert, Engl Iron Ball, Dean RC7 that's in this thread, an ESP Vintage plus relic'd strat, a GJ2 Glendora, my Rivera Silent Sister, and an MXR Badass Modified OD pedal.
