Does anyone know where these tubes can be purchased? They were used on ye olde Ampeg Universal Portaflex guitar amps They were capable of a much higher plate voltage than either 6550's or 6L6's and had a REAL dissipation capability of 50 watts each.. (I only wish I never got rid of my B12XTC with 4-12" Jensens.)

Unobtainium. Good luck. Start searching high and low for NOS.
These devices beat the crap out of the others. I would hate to have to design an amp around those others. I would have to parallel more to get the power I want.

There are Marshalls with 6 6550s (250 watts lead spec) and a bass amp with 8 (300 watts I think), how much are you looking for ? Back in the day Sound City had the 120 watt heads with 4 KT88s and those big beautiful Partridge transformers. Marshall Majors were 200 watts.

You can buy JJ’s from the tubesandmore store. They’re basically a 6L6GC with both grids G1 and G2 having (internally strapped) two pins instead of one like a 6L6GC.

They’re not much different from a 6L6…. The vast difference is heat dissipation characteristics. I wouldn’t put 50W, maybe 35 AMPD.

Thank you Brother M.

Merged the reply from the other thread into this one and removed that "duplicate" thread.
