Hey Dave,

I shot you an email about this, I picked up a 74'' Super Lead.. trying to figure out what mods have been done to it already... I'd like to get the kitchen sink mod done to it, but trying to figure out first what's already been done to it.

Maybe some other guys around here can chime in..

Here's a photo album of high resolution shots of the circuits...

What does that knob to the left of the power/stby switches do?

Is that a master volume?

yea, it's a master volume... not sure why whoever did the mod put it there instead of in the back... I'd like to get it moved to the back though... I'm not sure what else has been done to this... hoping to get it to Dave and let him overhaul it.

another issue with it... serial says it's a 1974 - 4298F, sticker on the chassis has a test date a 76-4-25 ... now I'm really confused.

If you're planning to send it to Dave, it really doesn't matter what mods are on it now. He'll rework the circuit to his spec. He can relocate the MV to where Vol II is now on the front of the amp and V I will become your Gain depending which mods you end up getting. Don't put the MV on the back. It's a pin in the ass there.

Amp is pretty much stock. It has a master vol added ansd a small amount of other tweaks. All will change if I mod it. Also the amp is a 76 F in the serial number is 76. A started in 69 to early 70 and so on.

Weird.. a lot of bad info out there, everywhere I read says F is a 1974....

I do.. that looks amazing...
It sounds a whole lot better than it looks, do yourself a favor and ship your amp to Mr. Friedman, he's in a league by himself.

This is straight HBE with a Les Paul. :inlove: :inlove: :inlove:

Forget shipping it, I'm dropping it off personally... Never need a reason to make the drive to LA... But I got one now.

That's what I thought.. And who knows.. My first thought was "oh shit, I got a Jose Arradondo amp, this dude has no idea what he has, I better grab it" ... Thing is, I don't know anything about old Marshall's as I've been playing solely Mesa amps for the last 10 years... Then I got on an EVH kick, and saw this amp decked out in EVH stripes, with a possible Jose mod, and I was sold right off the bat... I want to go pure EVH with the amp, I don't know if Dave has something different for an EVH tone other than maybe the brown eye with saturation switch... We will see though, I need to decide and figure it out this week before I go to LA next weekend.

I have always went by the history of Marshall book, which stated that 69 and 70 were A. And that Marshall didnt use B, I, O, or Q. So 71 is C, 72 is D and so on. Is this info now obsolete?
.
By the way, I have a 72 plexi.  I bet very few people know how I could have ended up with a 72 plexi. Any takers?

That's what I went off of as well, I just went to the source and asked Marshall. It's a 74".

I went on a hunt for an older JMP just to have another Kitchen Sink Mod, I found a 76' JMP Master Model 100 on ebay for $350, the head shell was modified to look like a monster Marshall but the chasis and amp are still stock, an old sticker on the back indicates it had some work done at Downey Music in East L.A, so I wouldnt be surprised if it spent some tim on Sunset in the 80's. Odd looking 76' transition era model, has three rocker switches, Polarity,Power,Stand by on the fron panel and these are stock! and still has some 70's International servicemaster 6550 tubes in it, I swear these tubes have been in this amp since the 70's, can't wait to send this to Dave.
