She arrived last nite...had no power due to snow storm but had a little time(once it came back on) to play with her a bit
'79 JMP 2204 Kitchen Sink BE/HBE/JBE/SAT/C45/FX loop
1st impression..I am really diggin the JBE mod.. nice chewiness and deepness to it while still holding onto that 'grind' and focus that makes marshalls what they are. Jammed on this mod the most..sounds good in drop tunings, leads, chords aren't muddy or flabby.. Tight but with some sag if that makes any sense. Lovin it
My 2nd favorite mod was the BE/SAT( aimed at Jose mod)..volume drops a bit but crank it up and it's mid-focused, tight and thumpin.. I'll use the word 'grind' again..that's what it does. Plenty of gain and it's smooth and clear.. I can see me using this mod for all the VH to Skid Row and even into modern territory..I think it will sound killer in a band situation with the bass guitar providing the bottom end..this thing will shine and cut like a knife.
HBE mod is very similar to BE all be it a slight different voicing..I wouldn't say theres more gain until your crank it up and get the tubes burning..then she seems to breathe
Didn't get a chance to use the C45 much.... can say it adds some mids to make lead/single notes sing a bit more.
I did have my pedalboard hooked into the fx loop while running my wah out front. The FX loop is transparent and incredible!! Hit my Koko boost for extra volume while soloing and it just takes it over the top... 1st impression, this amp has lived up to the hype and I cannot wait to get more acquainted with her. Currently has sovtek el34's and ars 12ax7 which Im switching out asap to JJEL34's and JJ12ax7's....guessing that should round out the bottom end a bit more and smooth things out further...can't wait. Thanks to all the fellow duderz here for letting me pick their brains.. and thanx to Dave for creating this monster and corresponding with me thru the process. I am Friedman happy
