90s Dual Rec Reissue vs. Recent Multiwatt Dual Recs

It does not matter which recto I’m playing . The way I boost and gate it I swear I get the same tone Everytime . It’s a great tone . I just usually get them in the same ball park .

Same. They all sound the same to me after boosting, which I find mandatory on any version. The only one that sounded noticeably different was my Tremoverb. The multiwatt is fantastic and would be my first choice.

Got it, yup same here, that’s why the cheaper price point of the multiwatt is so allurring
Multi-watt is a great amp. I picked one up for a good price a few months ago, after not having a Recto for years. Really digging it!

Compared to my old Rev G dual I have owned, it is a bit tighter and less scooped....kinda how the 90's Rec is a bit tighter and more mid aggressive than the Multi-watt. Might be make/break for some guys, but they are small differences and more alike than different; all Rectos. I like the Multi-watt enough that I don't think I will spend the $$$ on a 90's one.

Get the muti-watt, it has the better cleans and when you throw a sd-1 or ts9 or od808 in front it will get plenty tight.

Man I miss my tremoverb

If I’m buying one atm I’m weird , I’m getting Badlander

I keep forgetting the Badlander exists. I remember reading some posts early on about it not having enough gain, but never followed up on it.
I don’t play with as much as gain unless playing lead that most think. I got to try a friends . I liked it a lot .Im sticking with my Hermanson recto . I just prefer it though many don’t like it as well

I'll throw my hat in and say that although the Multi Watt and 90's DR are similar, I do think the 90's DR edges it out just for the extra preamp tightness that allows you to modernize it just a bit more than the MW.

The Mesa JP2C is just a bit fatter in the preamp than the Mark VII or the IIC+ Reissue, which allows the VII and the IIC+ RI to get just a bit tighter than the JP2C. Similarly, the 90's DR can be dialed and boosted to get just a bit more clanky and aggressive than the MW with the same kind of boost. I also like how the 90's DR sounds just a bit more balanced, smoother, and slightly less naturally scooped overall. It's still raw and relatively scooped compared to most amps, just not as extremely so as the MW. I think it makes the 90's DR sit in a mix better.
