Golf, like cars or clothes or guitars, doesn't have to be expensive. I'm solid middle class. The only other expensive bottle I've ever bought was a duty free (I used to fly international for business) Johnny Walker Blue when I paid off my house. Other than that, when I drink (rarely anymore) I'm looking at $25 wine and Czech beer as 'indulgences'. I've never had a taste for hard liquor. I save that for a sip on special occasions. G&T is my drink when I do drink. I will splurge on the tonic though.
