92 Ibanez RG560... Aftermarket Trem?

So, I have been refinishing a friends RG560 as a gift while he is overseas... It's been a little bit of a project for a number of years now. Unfortunately I have stupidly misplaced the box with the original parts in it. Everything was going to be replaced anyway except for the tremolo which was in almost new condition and now seems to be a big pain in my ass to find a replacement.

I have done a bunch of searching around and it seems the Gotoh Floyd Rose with a smaller sustain block fits okay, but I have heard it doesn't fit the cavity properly though I have not seen any pictures.

I was curious if anyone had replaced the trem on their RG with an aftermarket piece and could offer me a little help.

Appreciated in advance!

No experience with aftermarket stuff but Rich at Ibanez Rules has a lot of ibanez parts. I have an RG 560 from 89'. Nice model. Don't see it as often. Seems the 550 was more popular

I'd recommend finding an Ibanez Lo Pro Edge (not to be confused with the Edge Pro) or Original Edge. They will drop right in (obviously) and are great trems overall.

I talked to someone at ibanezrules.com via email and they said the original was $350 and discontinued and had 2 in stock in black that I need

I will look into the LoPro... Fit and finish will be the same I assume in the original cavity? The hard part is if I have to do any modification, I am screwed because the paint work is already finished.

Thanks!

I custom mixed the color. It's a 3 stage candy red with a very light gold flake that can only be seen if the light hits it just right... Very subtle. Also matched the headstock finish to the body instead of leaving it the original black and removed the pearl dots from the fretboard and replaced them with some rosewood dots. The neck came out pretty good for a first attempt I think

Thanks for the help guys

That looks great! I'd look on eBay for a Lo Pro Edge. The original Edge is longer and I'm not sure it would fit that route.

Were you able to replace those dots without pulling the frets?

Original Edge if that's what was in it originally. Best locking trem out there IMO. Better than the OFR.

Yup. Wasn't that hard at all honestly. 1/4" plug cutter and dye the glue a little bit. Tap them with a hammer till they flatten out and fit the hole. Can't even feel them
