Anybody know a reputable place for me to get some? I tried ordering some from Doug's tubes and they're out of stock   .

I have an idea... MEATHEAD CLIPS... I mean oh wait, I don't know   ;)

Willie (aka Lordvavle) in Denver at nbs electronics is a top notch vendor. google lordvavle to find a link.

i'll only use Willie or Doug, but now we got Laura who's a RT member selling so maybe she'll be as good as them?

laura = valvequeen or queenvalve? something like that?

  Well Greg, I'd love to put some up but I need to get these tubes first. I had some extra pre tubes laying around and I put them in and I thought (and reported) the problems were solved but no, still there  Changed power tubes already so this is the only thing left it could be

I was going to order from Laura but I didn't see any chinese on her website :dunno: Maybe I'll PM her

Tell me about it, I've been shitting bricks for the last 5 days   Mike said the Meathead loves the Chinese and Tung sol reissues so that's what I'm going to get, that way I know exactly what's going on. I have no way to test them out and the only ones I had laying around as extras were questionable, and only 1 chinese :aww:

Ut oh. Tubes should not go bad from shipping...unless the amp was dropped and they fell out. I have dropped many preamp tube without a problem. I pray that it isn't a bigger issue. :aww:

Please don't even say it   The box was nearly in perfect condition so I can't see it being treated too badly. Hopefully the new pre tubes will take care of it and I won't have to deal with it anymore.

whats wrong with the amp?

Low volume and some random crackling

These are all Chinese 12ax7's

Left to right (Shuguang, Chinese from a Bogner, Ruby AC5 12ax7a, Chinese from Splawn (Sino?), Chinese from a Bogner and Penta). There is a slight difference in the plates on the Penta and the Shug in comparison to the others and the 2nd spacer is round on the Shug and the Chinese that came out of my Bogner. The only difference that I heard when I placed each one in V1 in an amp was slight variations in the amount of gain but tonally, they all sounded pretty darn similar to my ears....

I had the same situation with a Marshall. One of the preamp tubes was shot. This is what I would do. Take out all the preamp tubes. Put any 12ax7 in that you have laying around and see how the amp sounds. If it works which im pretty sure it will you can replace the original 12ax7 that came with the amp 1 at a time until you come across the bad tube. Then just put the extra tube back in the amp and order yourself a new tube.

Thats what I did and the amp was fine. The bad tube I had looked fine when I was checking it out, but was shot.

Or you could just tap every one with an eraser until you hear a "ping." That'll tell you which one is bad. I recently did this with my 5150.

I tried that also and sometimes it makes the other tubes rattle and is hard to determine which is one is bad.

Cool, thanks for the suggestions guys  It's kind of weird trying to troubleshoot because I've been lucky enough over the entire time I've been playing guitar to never once have a tube go bad on me. I usually replace them right away (if I'm going to keep the amp) and I've gotten away with not having to deal with them ever again

If it works you have to send me the MH for a few weeks to test out. LOL....

  I don't ever want any shipping service to come near it after this :gethim: The box looks perfect, it (they) must have just been on the cusp on going bad already or something :dunno:

EDIT: Just realized something, the only problem with this method is that no New Sensor tubes can be used in certain positions and those are the only ones I have that are known to be good (EH).
