Love mine also! It has been getting more play time than my Axe-FX lately. I just tweaked the sound in the editor to have a tubescreamer boost, and a parametric EQ after the amp. Save the sound, and it sounds good every time I turn it on. If you use the software to add some EQs, you can dial in about anything you want.

And once again, like all these years on the forums, you get my G.A,S. going and I end up looking to buy something. :)

The Katana Head is really quite amazing for what it is. I want to spend more money on the Fractal setup like trying the ASM-12 or something, but it is hard to throw that much money at it when the Katana is so great for so cheap. I think what makes the Katana great isn't just the tone, but the feel. Many cheaper amps sound good, but feel flat and uninspiring. The Katana actually has a very nice feel to it, that can sometimes have more low end punch than the Axe/Matrix rig at times. The Fractal still has more of a 3-D type tone that surrounds the notes, but the Katana seems to interact with the speaker extremely well to give it more punch and thump while palm muting. Doesn't quite rival my Triple Rectifier, but not much does, lol.

It sounds pretty good stock, but really comes to life when you edit it on the computer. Throw some EQs and ODs in there, and you can really dial it in.

I have heard others say it takes pedals well, but I dont have many pedals left to try, lol. I know it takes boosts very well. I have used OD808s and Green Rhinos, and they worked very well.

It was a great purchase for sure, and has made me question the room full of gear I have, lol. I am not saying it is better than anything else, but it starts to make you question what is "good enough" when the prices are factored in.

Sounds GREAT man! Which channel is that?

Thank you sir!!

I kinda switched around through the channels in the video but I was mostly on the crunch setting.

I prefer the Lead channel over the Brown.
I really like the Brown setting but the Lead sounds more organic and tube like to my ears.

Slight hijack. How do you sync up the sound with the video? I'd like to buy one of those XLR interfaces for my SM57, but only have an iPhone 7 Plus for video. How to sync?

I'm mic'd in front of the cab using a Shure SM57 with X2u USB Signal Adapter plugged straight into my PC. From there the digital signal gets recorded with Adobe Audition cc.
I record the video separately with a Canon HD Vixia HF R32 and mix the video recording together with the finished audio track with a program call "NCH software" Video Pad Editor.
I synchronize the two files together and bingo, finished.

Thanks. Sounds too complicated for me. I need to find a local friend to walk me through this stuff.

I'm really blown away at how good it sounds with my Strat.
I saved this patch where it sounds like I'm playing through an old Fender Bassman amp. Fuckin' killer response.

I haven't try slaving it yet but I will with my Marshall 4x12 Greenback cab.
I'm betting it will sound wicked.

Care to share your settings on that? :D

man... i wish they'd let you throw an effect in the reverb slot

If I can figure out how to share the patch, I'll send it to you. I just don't know how to at this point in time. :)

This shows how to do it with the live set files.

Badass! Hey if you are using the head are you going thru like a Mesa 4x12 or similar?

I typically use it with an Avatar 212 cab.

That was some pretty impressive tones coming out of that thing! Sounds great.

This is full 80s metal geek but was that one riff you were playing, Ratt's "What You Give Is What You Get"? Sounded just like it.

Hey one last question too. How does the amp handle pedals?

You can come over and try mine out if you want!!

Oh man, you got one?!! That is awesome man! Which one did you get, the 100 Watter?

Man, I have so much crap I want and can't afford it all. I want a Friedman guitar, maybe the Katana, a Martin acoustic, etc., etc. Son of a.....:)

I've got the head running through my 212 and 412. Sounds pretty damn good. My fav is to use the built in guv'nor distortion pedal through the clean setting. Rocks really good.

I run my k100 head thru an avatar 2x12 with V30s in it this thing sounds bad ass. I just tried the 100watt combo in the shop today and wasn't as blown away by it I think just because of the sound of an open back cab. It still has some killer sounds to it. But the ability to run the head thru a cabinet of y iur choice really makes it shine. Andnir seems to take pedals well both in front and the loop. I've run my BE-OD thru it (not as an od but as another gain channel) and the effects loop seems to play well with other units thus far. Really impressed with this thing for the price point.

Sweet! Thanks man.

So much excellent information in this thread. Thread died a month ago, so I wonder if everyone still
loves their KATANA like they did when they first got it.
I decided I will get a Katana head. For the price, it seems like a bargain for what it can do.
I am basically going from an old Roland Cube-30 to the Katana head. I need the effects loop!
I just hope it will sound good at low volume levels. We'll see.
I'll be hooking it to an old Peavey 4x12 cab with Celestions. ( Before they went to the Sheffields )

QUESTION:
My cab is 16ohm mono. The speaker OUT on the back of the Katana head says "8-ohm minimum".
If the cab is 16-ohm, will that reduce the power output? Or does it deliver full power into 8 or 16 ohm?
I can't find any information about this. Anyone know?

I'm pretty well past the honeymoon period with my 100w head and I'm actually enjoying it more now than when I first got it.

I run mine into a 16 ohm cab. Not sure whether it reduces output or not, but if you're concerned about volume or how the amp feels/responds, don't be. Even the .5 watt setting is surprisingly loud. It responds to picking dynamics and guitar volume changes better than a few of the tube amps I've had over the years. That's one of the reasons I'm enjoying it so much.

Thanks for the feedback.
If the Katana is as good as everyone says it is... I wish I had one 20 years ago.

I still love mine as well. It is a great amp to just flip on at home and jam with no fuss. I tend to play it more than my tubes, or modeling rack just because it is so simple and has a great feel to it.

I actually need to hook it up the PC and fine-tune my sounds. I haven't saved a preset since the week I got it like 6 months ago.

I use an 8-ohm cab, so I am not sure. It is loud as hell as mentioned.

I've been thinking about these amps for practice with

Yeah, I'm loving this amp still.
I just rehearsed with the band tonight and used my Katana 100w combo line out into an in ear monitor system.
Sounds awesome in the mix of everything through my good Sony headphones.
This amp just keeps on giving no matter what I through at it.

I'm sold. You guys convinced me to try it.
I got the GA-FC footswitch today. It's nice. Made out of metal, and the switches feel good.
In a couple of weeks, I should be ordering the HEAD.
I am looking forward to using my 4x12 cabinet and G*major rack unit again.
They have been collecting dust for a LONG time. ( Been using my CUBE-30 to practice with. )

I just hope the Katana head will sound good at low volumes.
I don't need to be peeling the paint off the walls inside the house!

You won't be disappointed with the Katana at low volumes. Leave it on 100w and turn the master down, or crank the master and put it on .5 w. It'll sound killer either way. And glad to hear the footswitch arrived OK, I still need to get one.

A quick update on my Katana experience. I originally bought the 100w head on a whim. I figured I'd use it as a cheap, light backup amp for gigs. As I said in an earlier post, my main amp for years has been a Bogner XTC. I started running the Katana at rehearsals and decided to gig it instead of the XTC at an outdoor show last weekend. Of course, keeping in-line with all the praise being heaped on it, it way more than fit the bill and sounded fantastic. Not better or worse than my Bogner, just different, in a very cool way. So in the middle of the gig, our singer/rhythm guitarist's JCM800 died. Between sets, I set him up with my Katana and I went back to my XTC...always bring a backup. Everyone in the band and production crew agreed that he never sounded better (his poor Marshall has needed some TLC for years now). He's the only guitarist in both of my bands that doesn't own a Katana and he was so happy with it, he's ordering one now too.

I love my Marshalls, but I'll never bring one to a gig without a backup. I leave my Katana at our practice space, so I don't get much time on it, but it will be a great backup at my next gigs.
