So, I'm going to France to see my parents for a few days, for the first time in aeons. Imagine my horror when I realised that the only gear I have there is a Marshall MG15 combo (my first amp), which dates from my early teens!

I have a Fender American strat with me, and a Maxon OD-808. The challenge: to get a usable high gain tone out of it. If I manage it, clips will go up.

Help me fellow RT'ers...you're my only hope!

I meant please suggest ways of getting decent tones with the gear I will have available in the next few days!

Three simple steps guaranteed to get you a sound suitable for vacationing in France:

1) Adjust the controls of whatever you have until it sounds good to your ears.

2) Play.

3) Remember that YOU'RE IN FRANCE and who cares if it doesn't sound like you're using your favorite rig for all of three days. Maybe go do something. :)

Where Is Barzini to tell you "Many Men would love the council of other men such as yourself in matters of the intimate behavior"

HAHA Just kidding __ Ilike playing with No Amp quite alot__

yo Spirit7 If you don't like that Maybe you SHOULD listen to RacerV ha

OR get a Green Big Muff everything sounds great with that

Quite honestly... For a trip like that I would just bring a good guitar and play unplugged. Or an acoustic. Or no guitar.

When I think about it... For a few days? I wouldn't bring a guitar. I would just hang out and catch up.

I don't know what part of France you'll be, but leave your guitar in your room and go see Christophe Godin and/or Morglbl. One of the best players anywhere and he has a great sense of humor.

I don't see any real dilemma here. Leave the guitar at home, spend time with the family, get hammered, bang a french chick, see some french shit.

If you have a modeler. Take it with you along with a step down transformer from Radio Shack (so you can plug it in and get the right juice). Guitar into modeler into MG15 will equal some pretty decent tone.

I wouldn't ever bother carting a guitar to France...shit, there are days I won't reach over and pick one up off of a stand that's a foot from my couch

I vote banging the hottest (or most eager) French girl you run across :D
