its been a while since ive posted any of my music so heres something that is a work in progress thats been sitting in a folder for months. I barely know what I am doing so theres some minor EQ'ing and no mastering. MT Powerkit drums. Bass is a Sterling Sting Ray 5 direct using TSE Audio BOD plugin.

But any feedback is welcome on whether you like the song or not. Or if you want to guess what gear/tone/s.

I like the textures and interest the melody lead guitar brings when it kicks in. I'm guessing the tone is something Marshall-ish or Marshall inspired.

Cool track, I like your soloing, especially the melodies. If I have one critique, it's that the bass has a very round bottom that clashes with the low end of the rhythm guitar. Might want to see if you can get them out of the way of each other. One option for future tracks might be to try out flat wound strings on the bass.

sounding good man
how do you like the sting ray 5? I'm setting up a recording rig and am shopping around for a low-mid level bass. A lot of guitar work will be on a 7 string so I figure a 5 string bass would be the way to go.

I like it

The middle section was more complex vs the beginning sections. Nice soloing. I was guessing 6505+ based on your sig. For the heavy stuff but I'm also guessing you have a mix of amps on this track? Good stuff dude.

Thanks! I think the bass is a tad loud in the mix but I will have to learn about how to do what you're suggesting.

I like it alot and recommend it, though I don't have any experience with anything else so I may be the wrong one to ask lol

Thanks you're not far off with the 6505 guess that's pretty close. I had two tracks with one amp only for the longest time but just re recorded the second track using a different tone altogether just yesterday.

Mine aren't Sterlings but rather the full-blooded StingRay5s, one fretted and one fretless. One's a 20-year-old model and the other's 15 years old. They're my recording basses.

From what I've heard, the Sterling versions are for all practical intents and purposes pretty-much the same thing, so I'm not surprised you like yours.

Something changed with the quality now. Earlier today when I posted it it sounded nice and full, just like how the actual file sounds thats on my phones drive. But listening to it now on the same SoundCloud link it sounds really weak and thin and all treble.

I think its cool man! Love the harmonies! I agree what some said about the bass, I'd consider hitting it with a slight boost or TS to get some definition.

It's soundcloud! Does the same to me. Probably not an issue with the + subscription if I were to guess.

If you go over LUFS-14 the audio streaming sites with compress your track for you.. and not in a "good" way.

Can you describe how I would do that? (The plugin I use has a boost function on it already that is engaged.

2 standard ways:

1) If you have a dist / overdrive plugin with a mix control, insert it in the channel and blend to taste.
2) If you don't have one with a mix control, either copy the track and run a second channel with the added grit and blend to-taste with the channel fader, or use an aux send from the main channel to a bus in which you've inserted the grit plugin and again, blend to-taste with the channel fader.
