Do they seem to last awhile? I've been using Ruby's and the straight Chinese version for awhile. They sound good and are pretty reliable, but 6 months and they are done.
 
They are lasting a very long time on my master volume amps(I do use them very loud too). I do not use my Hiwatt or Harry Joyce amps all the time, but the GT EL34M are in there for at least 5 years, and I've been recording with it quite a bit. So far, no stress signs on the tubes.
Also, have to mention that my 100w Marshall does abuse the power tubes a lot, and I have at least 10 hours on them, but with every control maxed out and 525 on the B+! So far so good.
 
George plus plexi plus SG or LP always = tasty playing and tone!!! Great stuff as usual brother George!
 
Uh oh..I fear a VH 1 conspiracy stock or non stock argument coming on!!

Ever take a peek inside that amp to see what parts may or may not deviate from the norm? Bypass caps mainly..

That's good to know. The 68 is around 480v, I always bias them 55-60% since they are always run at least 6. This '69 is closer to 500v and my metal panel '69 is 517v.

These tubes in the '69 are probably 10 years old...svetlanas I think. It's been awhile since I've been in this one.

I have a 74 DR103 running chinese right now. Can't remember the b+ but it's biased alot warmer than I'd like. Have to change that at some point. :)

Thanks Kevin. You know I've always liked SG's better than LP's, they are just cool. :rock: This Epi is a killer guitar. It hung in the music store i was teaching at forever. Always picked that one up during breaks. Then one day it was an offer I couldn't refuse.

Yeah just wait till I post it at TGP. Should be good I think.

I bought it in the early 90's and it was completely stock and untouched. Didn't even plug it in to try it. I used to buy all the old Marshalls that came around. :) The first thing I did was open it up and rewire the preamp and chuck the EL34's for 6550's. Used it that way for a long time. Then a few years ago decided to try it stock again, so I put it back. It's just one of the magic ones. Sounded great modded and great stock (preamp anyway).

The magic in these are the output side...transformers, filtering and the way the presence works....oh and using the 8 ohm imp setting with a 16 ohm cab. :D
 
sounds superb, i can see why everyone is asking about mods, it sounds way gainier than the stock Plexi sound in my head.

How loud were you running it ?

Yep it's the highest gain plexi/ Marshall I've come across. Using Vol I it's on 6. Not too loud. :lol: :LOL:

Great example of a healthy vintage Marshall. Fat, juicy midrange!
 
Man it's close...I mean it sounds really good. :thumbsup:
But you'd get closer to the old Van Halen tone by using a strat with something like a Dimarzio SD in the bridge.
