Simplifying my rig... again :D ... going away from my 4x12 and back to a solid 2x12. Suits our venues better and easier for transport for me.. Gotta get simple. I play Classic to Modern rock... mostly mid to high gain stuff and alot of leadwork. Looking for a solid, well built, 2x12 with good projection, cut and holds together well. Exclusively for LIVE use since I don't do any recording or studio work.. Cab will be mic'd every show. Narrowed it down to some of the below.. Curious on those who have had some or any of them and your opinions. Can't wait for 'build' times so need something that I can find soon. I'll be loading them with my Scumback mix or change up speakers when time comes. Thanks for your time and opinions.

Two Rock Signature 2x12
Dr Z Z best 2x12
Splawn 2x12
Stone Age 2x12 (use to have one.. great cabs but hard to find)
Bogner OS 2x12

Cheers

+1 on the Bogner OS 2x12.

sounds great for Classic Rock & all points heavier, IMO because of the big central brace post that keeps the back from moving in and out. often can be found used for $600-500. stock V30s are easy to flip, since you're using other speakers. if it's missing the casters, the $4 ones at Home Depot fit perfectly. FTW!

This isn't such a widely recognized brand, but I love my Whitebox Modern 2x12.

WIZARD 2x12!!!! Built like a tank and absolutely kills loaded with Lynchbacks!!!! I've owned mine since 2007 and it will never get sold.

It's also more than twice as expensive as a Bogner...

Oh darn... I bought mine used and in perfect condition for $400.

Nice score, especially since they're pretty hard to find
I was talking brand new prices

Bogner makes the best cabs out there, IMHO. For more cost friendly options, check out Avatar. If I weren't pressed for cash though I'd go Bogner, no question.

You might consider the Peavey 6505 212, a tube, 60 watt combo:

http://www.peavey.com/products/index.cf ... g%3B%20212

It has a sealed back, giving it the kind of low end and directionality of a 4x12 cabinet. I don't think the 6505 212 is that well known, but its big brothers, the 6505, 6505+, and 6534 heads have a decent following in the hard rock community.

Soldano closed back 2x12?
Ive one and it sounds great with anything ive thrown at it.
Huge sound!

I recently picked up a PRS stealth big mouth cab(us model) I compared it at the store with the orange and mesa cabs they had and to me it sounded better and felt better built. I got an usually good deal on it because the Boston ma guitar center had it clearances out to $280 from $700. Came stock with vintage 30's. They had one other one a few weeks ago but I don't know if they still have it. I will be getting a Friedman 212 to match my brown eye as soon as they are available though

Those are heavy and as cumbersome as a 4x12 and head to lug around. Maybe worse. They are hell on your back moving around, IMHO.

The closed speaker cabinetry does make it heavy as combos go, but it's a one piece affair. I wouldn't carry one around by myself. A little hand truck solves a lot of the weight issue. Some might find that a separate amplifier head and 2x12 speaker cabinet would be easier to haul around.

I went for a used Mesa vertical 2x12.
Sturdy, sounds great, not too heavy, has wheels...and I like that it's not directing the sound just at my feet.
I changed out the speakers for Weber Legacy 30 watters.

Not sure it would fit in my car?? That's 1 of my dilemma's now.... I have to stick my 4x12 in my trunk....with half of it sticking out.. Not ideal. I want something more easily transportable. Thanks for ideas.

The dimensions of the 6505 212 are 24.125" (H) x 30.125" (W) x 12" (D). You might need to do some measuring. Going back to your original remarks, it sounds like you are thinking of using your existing amplifier head. Having the separate amplifier head and a 212 might be easier to haul in you car to gigs, but require a small amount of additional setup.

Yeah.. I wont and probably never will use a combo amp. I like my heads to much... so the peavey is out. Thanks for advice though. Cheers
