Have you guys with home studios/ project studios tried this or seen this? https://accessanalog.com/ and mix:analog is another service that does a similar thing. Access analog you load like a plugin and stream in real time. Depending on your connection they have also provided offline upload/download so you can process your tracks that way without signal loss. A bit of delay when you turn knobs in real time but once you know your preferred settings, you start the song over and print it. I played with the free compressor last night and it was pretty cool. I know it is getting close between plugins and hardware but the depth (especially from compressors) is still the difference with hardware. Yes you have theoretical signal loss between AD/DA conversion (maybe 3-5 passes) depending how you mix but it is a cool concept that you can rent a real 1176 for like 12$ an hour. I have listened to AD/DA tests with 5 passes and couldn't hear a difference. Anyway, if you are organized, you can get a lot done. You can also sample some killer gear. Obviously the more rare stuff is a bit pricier by 30-60 min but WAY cheaper than what you'd pay for it. Most of us are project people anyway, owning 15 K in compressors may not be worth it. Anyway check both services out! I would see them as being very useful during mastering. Not sure if the business model will work long term but maybe this is the future?
