Anyone have any thoughts On jones DOD EQ and mxr boost pedal? I really think this is the secret to that beautiful, screaming and bursting tone that seems to react differently depending on where he is on the fingerboard. I have been able to get somewhat close by using a boss parametric eq and lpb-1 running to a mxr analog chorus to a valve king and a carvin both 1x12 running at same time. Sounds really killer . I think he boosts the high frequencies instead of mids like most think. that's where I can get that kick he has

His pedal settings are floating around the net somewhere. Try Tooltabs.net

The boost pedal he has (MXR Micro) is in a separate loop with another pedal (delay or flanger or something, I forgot). So he doesn't use it all the time. Probably just for solos or lots of feedback parts like the intro to Rosetta Stoned.

The secret to the touch response he gets is: his fingers + a cranked Super Lead.

All that high end is probably from a screaming non-master volume Marshall. Want the Jonez Toanz? Find jonl's vids of his Marshall/blueface Diezel rig. Dude nails it. But that tone is as much technique as it is gear.

I would have to agree... insanely loud Marshall and fingers... that's the secret. The Diezel is there to provide thickness....

I would argue that even if you were asked to play his guitar/rig you would not sound like him... Yes, you would sound closer than all of us but not like him...

my 2 cents!
