I know he uses a 1976 Marshall Super Bass, what mods has he had done to it and by who?

Thanks,

Only thinks I know about that amp is,

1....some fanboi would pay a huge amount of money for that amp and...

2...There was a crazy internet rumor he would stick it in the freezer to help slow down the aging process

I was sure that it wasn't modded?! He uses it to 'fill' out the sound of his other high gain amps. Or has in the past. I thought it was just dimed.

It may be, but I heard somewhere it was. Hmm...

I had always heard it was modded too. I believe that was his main amp before he added the Diezels.

Its a 78ish jmp wired superlead specs with a few minor changes he runs it dimmed and does jumper the channels with a cable. The amp is biased to 25ma and uses jj el34's when I had my hands in it last. Its a great sounding head.

I just bought a 78 Superbass off eBay for under a grand. Still has the original GE tubes in it. Not sure what I will do with it, but it needs a mod to make it practical to use. I don't like any of the power attenuators out there very much. Bought an Ultimate Attenuator, still it sounds too saturated and compressed. Not much on fake distortion either. So, it has been cast aside. In its place is a Voodoo modded JCM 800 2204 I bought. Must be nice to play somewhere big enough to dime one of these damn things. the Marshall adds a nice whomp to the VH4 and Uberschall mix.

Steve

Well, I'm moving out of town where I can actually CRANK it on a daily basis, so the Marshalls have become an option. :)

nice, do you remember the minor changes?
he has been using the amp for tool since the band started, the diezels came in for the aenima album, not sure if they made it on the undertow tour. the superbass has been in his rig since opiate

He was using rectos during the late undertow/early aenima days. There are plenty of pics out there with a Deul Recs on the back line during the 90s

This is also fuel for that <500 serial number two channel duel rec myth

FWIW, I never considered his tone that impressive but the cultish obsessions with that band make for a lot of hyperbole

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the Diezel's weren't until the Lateralus stuff. Also, to my ears there is a distinct difference between his tone on Lateralus & 10,000 days and their previous albums.

oh, and just to clear it up, the superbass has always been in the rig, so by "using rectos" I meant he was using Rectos AND the Supebass

I also believe this. I do not think there is any Diezel on Aenima
at all. It does not sound like a Diezel. It sounds like a Dual Rectifier.
There are no photos of one being around at that time I have seen.
