I’m in both camps as far as the Rec vs VH4.
For a long time I favored the Diezel but then started listening to live Undertow era and the Rec sounds absolutely killer too. In my opinion and too my ears the Marshall is key for both rigs.

I love the sound of using two or more amps but the phase issues, stage space, setup time, etc. - just make it impractical for me. I did it for over two decades.

As others have mentioned the Marshall is the key. Mixing that with whatever other amp.

In my experience the amp detemines the feel when playing, not so much the sound.
The sound is 80% speaker and cab. The speaker is the most complex filter the signal runs through and there are lots of recordings where I have are hard time telling what amp I used on which track if I did not put it in the name. Even a Diezel can sound like a Marshall when presence is turned up and run through a greenback cab,

There is a difference because the VH4 has the bright switch engaged and sounds a bit more harsh, but that could also be the other way round with the settings tweaked or a bright cap in the SLP..

Absolutely. Recording that I did 20-30 years ago often I have no idea what amp. Because it all just sounds like me.
Having said that with the band this week I went from using a Triple Rectifier to a Univalve. Definitely a few differences.

I did notice when using two amps at the same time if the attack envelopes are extremely different the feel can be difficult to become accustom.

Trying to get the harmonics of a NMV amp and the big modern bass sound out of a single amp can be difficult.

Yes, I have a Lehle AB Box with a transformer just for convencience, but I rarely use the 6505 and VH4 at the same time.
It's fun for 10 minutes, but apart from the cool stereo feel it is strange to have two amps react differently to one's playing.

I do not like low wattage amps in general. The ones I played did not sound right to me.
I do not need lots of bass, but the bass of low wattage amps feels wrong to me. Haven't played a univalve though.
