Adding a footswitch jack to my amps, is it possible?

Hi guys, I have wondering if anyone maybe can help to find out if it's possible:

I have a Marshall SLP Cameron Aldrich mod, Mark put it a 2 position switch in the front which adds more gain. I was wondering if I could make a footswitch jack to control that function and use it as rythm and solo channels?

The same happens with my Marshall JMP Cameron Jose Mod, it has in the back a 3 position switch to change between 3 style of gains. Is it possible to make a 3 channels footswitch to change between them?

Really thanks for try to help :D

Yes it it possible, but most likely not simple. You would have to add a relay switching system to the amp and change out those switches to relays. Which would require a DC power supply

On the Jose mod 3 position switch, that simply grounds the 2 different clipping circuits (Diodes/PNP transistors) so adding just a grounding foot switch would be possible, but you would need 2 foot switches to do it. One to reference ground and the other to switch between the two diodes.

The simple answer is sure it is possible, but too much trouble and expense

I had a switching board made by Richard Lingenberg, hes the main tech for that electro harmonix guy (the pic of the big dude with a cigar in his mouth standing by all the EH pedals) . it controls up to 8 vactrols. basically any switching you want to do I can do by nstalling this board. $100 for the board . prob 1 hour labor. Im also familiar with those circuits.

It is possible no matter how many people say it's not without affecting the tone. I just had Jerry Pinnelli from FJA install a second footswitchable master and gain for the Aldrich channel on my Cameron JCM and he did a killer, killer job. If you're just asking about replacing the toggle with a footswitch, you'll probably end up with volume differences between the 2 settings that will drive you nuts.

My cameron slp aldrich mod has 2 inputs: one for low gain and other for hi gain. I use the second because I love hi gain. It also has in front panel a switch for extra gain wich is amazing for solos. Changing that switch between that 2 posittions there's no volumen differences, only that one of them has less gain. I wanna add a footswitch jack in the back and control boths via mini amp gizmo and my gsystem tc electronic)

Sorry for being so implicit at first

Are you sure you have an Aldrich? What you are describing sounds like a hi/lo gain Jose to me...

Steve

Mmm I bought 2 amps from someone in who said it was a slap aldrich mod and jmp jose mod.

Both are signed by cameron.

Jmp has MV 4 inputs which only 2 works (with low and hi gain), the others are anulated. On the back it has a bass cut knob and a 3 possition switch with 3 gain style.

The slp has also MV and 4 inputs: 1) has a 2 gain style switch 2) a knob that adds gain 3) the other 2 inputs are able with low and hi gain respective. On the back it has 2 more knobs for bass cut and the other adds treble.

How to know if it's Jose or Aldrich mod Steves?

Thanks for inputs guys

I think Steve may be right. My Aldrich doesn't have a clipping switch but my Jose did.

It is pretty unusual, but not impossible for an Aldrich mod to have a clipping circuit (gain style switch). The Aldrich has 4 gain stages and the high gain side of the Jose has 3. You really have to pull it out of the head case and look at the circuit to tell. I could.

Mark has used the diodes on the Aldrich before, usually doesn't. If you're not getting a volume change when switching it's probably not switching diodes.

Ok here are some pics of the amp and PCB, I hope it helps in anything. If you need any especific pic just let me know. As I said it has 2 knobs in the back that Mark didn't label them. I think it's bass cut and treble boost but I'm not sure, if you can tell me seeing the pics I'll apreciate it too.

Heres is the link in photobucker, look there and you will see many that I uploaded.

That's different than any of Mark's work I've seen. That switch on the front can be made footswitchable. It's not switching any diodes.

Jerry, do you know if it's an Aldrich mod?

The guy who selled to me had an auction on ebay selliing a jmp aldrich mod mad by cameron with same specs as me. I can't find it right now.

Thanks

Hard to tell a lot from the pics. Looks like an Aldrich from what I can tell. Some things are done different than I have seen Mark do them in the past, parts look a bit different too. I think that guy is tight with Mark so I think it probably is Mark's work.
Get in touch with Mark, he'll tell you if it's his work.
Jerry

I don't know how to contact him, I tryed everywhere to find any mail from him. Mark also re-signed my both amps and dedicated to me

Not sure if you will ever get a hold of Mark ! I know that some members here on the forum still have (or did) have access to him. Throw a thread up on the Cameron site here on RT and see who responds. Never know. Good Luck.
