Adding a new amp to my arsenal.

I already have a Mesa Stiletto Ace 50w head but i'm looking to add a new amp to compliment it. I play mainly rock/pop rock and metal every once in a while. (i.e Anberlin, Underoath (post Gillespie), Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, ETID).

Anyway my top choices right now are an original single channel JCM 800, Soldano Avenger, Orange Rockerverb 100, and possibly a Fryette Sig: X. I don't really know of anywhere near me where I can try out any Soldano or Fryette. Any first hand experiences with any of these amps? If so, let me know! Thanks!

After researching the band and some of their other sounds it really sounds like one guitar player has a Dual Rect, Soldano style sound and one has more of a up front Marshall, Orange style.

Parts of the song I thought a Diezel Herbert would work out great. Other times a Suhr PT-100 had the right sound.

If I were you I would sell the Mesa. Pick up a a used Peavey and some stop boxes and an ISP noise gate.

Ehhh, not a fan of 6505's, if that's the Peavey you're referring to.

Since I already own a Stiletto, which is JCM 800-ish, maybe an Orange or Soldano would be a nice contrast? I've never really been able to get my Mesa to replicate the magic of those older JCM 800s though...

i'd probably go for the orange given the bands/styles you've mentioned

pretty sure maylene use or have used Orange amps, Underoath & ETID as well although they have some killer custom JCM800 clones

i seen maylene live a few times and they use orange's. and that would be a good amp also to blend with the stiletto. My friends old band one player used a rockerverb and the other used a dual rec with el34's and they sounded fantastic.

Interesting post. I personally think DR's and Soldanos sound nothing alike. I realize the DR is a similar design, but the Soldanos sound like hot rodded Marshalls, and DR's are kinda muddy.

Having owned a VHT UL and it being my least favorite "boutique" amp, you'd think that I wouldn't agree with that. But I do. The Sig:X seems to be a versatile beast and would cover the tones he's looking for.

Yeah the Orange or a Rectifier series amp would suit you well for you're style. I can't help but feel that the Stiletto (which I own) and the Orange together would be a tad redundant? Both are el34 british flavored amps. You can pick up Rectifiers used off GC or musicgoround for between 9-1100 bucks all day long. They get a not so great reputation, but a lot of people just dont know how to set an amp up properly. Good value for money. I just saw a Rectoverb head on the guitar center used page for $799. They have a lot of the combos going for the same price.

No way dood... if she's an adult, then knock yourself out. KUDOS to you! Mine is 6 years my senior. That pic was actually taken in January on her 50th birthday! But I wouldn't trade her for someone half her age. All that matters is the person inside and she's awesome. In fact, I really don't deserve someone as good as she is. I'm a lucky bastidge too!

I'm definitely considering a shiva. The uberschall is out of my price range but I'll have to look into the twin jet a little more.

I would just get the jcm800 but the thing is... Everyone has a Marshall! I feel like my tone would be no different from millions of other guitars players.

Uberschalls are going used for just a couple hundred more than regular Shivas are. But for the genres you listed as wanting to cover, you'll do a LOT better with the Shiva than you will the Uber (TJ or other). But a regular Shiva doesn't do "metal" very well (even with a pedal) IMO. Now the 20th Anniversary Shiva is a different story (from what I gather). My EL34 Shiva was an awesome, versatile beast. But I wasn't using it for modern, drop-tuned metal. A very midrange heavy amp. And when you dial too much of the mids out, it loses a lot of its character and definition IMO.
