That story he tells about him being ok being in a two guitar band is NOT the same story that David Coverdale told back in ‘89. I’ve got the Guitar magazine from that year (somewhere, the one with Coverdale and Vai on the front), and in it there’s a looonggg interview with Coverdale. He said one day he had a conversation with Adrian when they were on the 87-88 tour. Adrian was laying out by the hotel pool. Coverdale said it seemed Adrian was all bummed out because he wasn’t happy about the two guitar situation. Coverdale claims he put his foot down and said WS was always going to be a two guitar band. I can totally see that happening bc Adrian just disappears in a two guitar lineup. It’s almost as if he’s too compliant with being support, when it comes to this situation. He’s a fantastic player for sure, but he’s never eclipsed that debut Vandenberg album.
