I have an Edwards Sykes also and it is the TANK of my collection. Neck is definitely on the thicc end of what I like, but is still smokin' fast and the tone is huge (amplified or not)!
It is great as is, although I have some ideas to make it even better next year:
Definitely:
SS 6100 Refret
Bypass both tone controls (I never use them on HB guitars anyway and like max cut)
Maybe:
Brass Nut
Pickups?
From at least the 2010s until recently they came with a Duncan Distortion set, although apparently now Edwards uses OEM ESP pickups (doubt they are as good).
The DD set in mine is awesome of course, if probably overkill for an LP design. I had some '80s Dirty Fingers in a Gibson V back in the day and replaced the bridge with the 500T and neck with a nickel covered PAF, which I liked better overall. Although I must say, I remember there was some mean-spirited grit that I liked about the Dirty Fingers and am curious to hear that again. Less sophisticated, more primal than the 500T/PAF was.
Can anyone speak with experience about current production
Dirty Fingers in a Les Paul Custom (bonus points if Sykes!)?
I'm curious to try them just for the helluvit and to have something different for this LP, although I don't want to take a step back from where I am now. If not DF, what would be the ultimate HH set for this guitar? I use it for much the same style as Sykes did in the '80s and Billy Duffy during the Sonic Temple era.
