i am a 6x12 cab fanatic,..(of certain,..magical,...pixie dust filled ones anyway)...the SUNN, V-BAFFLED 6x12 is the mother of all cabs!!,..bar none!,..and it is the one piece of gear i regret selling the most,...i had the honor of using an old marshall 8x10 cab,..and was working on a deal with satan before it was sold out from under me,...guess my tarnished soul wasnt as worthy!...i tried a emporer 6x12 that was being sold localy on craigs list,...i went with cash in pocket,...my van my sg,...and a big smile,...i left with a heart as empty as my van,..i was crushed!!,..it sounded ok,..i guess,..but no magic with it,...he said it had greenback clones ,...i didnt open it up...used his peavey 6505+....but it just didnt have the SOUL of the SUNN or the MARSHALL,....too many factors to take a guess at,..construction?...wood??,...speakers???, his amp????....i have no idea,...but i did a ton of research on cab construction,..searched high and low for another SUNN 6X12,..no luck,..found a few MARSHALL 8X10'S,...but being in debt as much as i am in,..i couldn't afford to pull the trigger on one thats in salvageable condition (most of them have been rapped of the vintage speakers,..and by the time you put something of equal quality in there,...your talking the price of many souls!)
so more research,...and i built a copy of pete townsends infamous MARSHALL 8X12 MONSTER!!!,....FILLED IT WITH A 50/50 MIX OF VINTAGE GREENBACKS & SCUMBACKS (2 m75's & 2 h75's),....and to my utter joy,...the magic is there!!!,...oh thank god!,...YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW STRESSED OUT I WAS BEFORE I ACTUALLY PLAYED THROUGH IT FOR THE FIRST TIME!!!!,...i just sat in front of it,..smoking cigerettes,...coming up with excuses not to plug it in,..."oh,...gotta have new guitar strings!!,..what crazy man would even think of trying to play through it with 2 week old strings!!!"...."oh,..the glue hasnt fully cured yet!!!,...it was quite probable it would self destruct with out the proper curing time!!!!",...i shit you not!!,..my norosis prevented me from plugging and playing through the cab for 3 days after it was complete!!! i have experimented with a bunch of tweaks,..baffleing foam,...dividers,...fucking dividers,...good god,..i had it so i could divide every speaker individualy!...ha!.....but in the end,....it sounds by far the best with nothing in the cabinet but two 2x2 back board braces,....everyone i talked to told me it would be boomy and that the greenbacks would fart out and be buried by the scumbacks,...and nothing could be farther from the truth,...theres only 2 cabs on the planet i would trade for it,..SUNN 6X12,...or an original.....MARSHALL 8x12
