So let's say you have shipped a piece of gear out for repairs in another state, but the repair station doesn't want send it back. What does one do? Do you go to the shop with the local police and ask him to turnover your gear? Seems like that's the only option.

I'm experiencing what to me seems like stonewalling. The builder has had the unit for over 3 months now. The repair was supposedly completed 3 weeks ago, but the tech says that he's hearing some distortion in the signal... He says that he's busy with production, and hasn't been able to spend any more time on it. I've decided to get the unit back so that I can send it to a tech who has experience with repairing the device. I've requested a bill for the work that was done so that I can have FedEx pickup my gear for return shipment. I don't want to have to fly to California to get my gear, but I will if I don't receive an acceptable response.

That's the only legal way. Better have some proof that its yours.

Please post the shop name so no one here has this happen.

Hopefully everything works out.

Holy crap. That sucks. Good luck.

Please post the shop so everyone knows not to deal with them

Yes, please! I just shippped an amp to california...

Dude that blows. I'd be fucking incensed, and he would be incredibly sorry if I actually felt like I had to go and get on a plane, fly to another state and knock on his door.

It's a messed-up situation. The device is a VERY RARE piece, and something tells me that he may not want to let it go. I may be overreacting, but the bottom-line is that if he didn't have the time to address the issue, then he never should have accepted to take-on the task. He first told me what he found, and fixed it. He then said that all the caps needed to be replaced, so I told him to do whatever was needed. I didn't hear from him for 2 weeks. I then called him, and that's when he said that there was some audible background distortion in the signal. This was over 1 month ago, and I've just had it! Flying from Florida to California may seem extreme, but I'm ready to go. I figure I'll turn the trip into a vacation... :D I have my purchase receipt, and also emails from the builder agreeing to take on the repairs, shipping address, and the FedEx shipping order. I will contact the local authorities before I leave, just in case it requires any formal paperwork. Hopefully he will send me an email tomorrow saying that it is ready to go... If not, it's off to Cali!

It's not MC, although it sounds like a familiar episode. I would rather not reveal his identity, as I can't be 100% sure that he's up to no-good, nor am I implying he is. He may just be swamped with work, I don't know? I'm quite sure everyone here knows who he is. He is an awesome guy to talk with, and just can't imagine he would ever do anything to willfully rip anyone off. Maybe he's just enjoying playing through it?  It's not anything he has said... It's what he hasn't said that concerns me.

Sorry to get off topic with the chic and her big boobs bouncing. Anyway, I think you are taking the higher road by not posting the name of the builder. I am sure it is tempting but.....

These guys are all correct with the documentation and such. Like the one guy posted, I think I would be knocking on the door with a F'n bat. In the end I am sure it will all work out. Good Luck Man!

What part of Cali?

I had a guy burn me for two guitars here in the Bay Area back in 2008 by hiding from me then claiming I had not picked up my gear within 90 days. As far as I know he is still in business and doing amps, I wonder if its the same guy? Maybe I can pay him a visit for you.

You can PM if you dont want to post it in this thread.

Like I said, I would rather not reveal his identity. He's been busting his ass bringing his products to the market - no doubt about it. I think he's just overloaded with work, and wants the unit to be perfect. I just get nervous about things like this... It's in my nature I guess? Three months to me may seem like 3 weeks to him, but that doesn't change the way I feel about it. I would just rather get it back, and let my tech finish it up.

I don't care if I sent my amp to mike soldano. If he had it for that long and didn't send it back when I asked for it, I'd be definitely looking to get it back by paying a visit
