Hi all, I've done some research and used the search function, but my question is too specific so I need your help/advice on what you think the best solution is, based on your experience. Thanks in advance!
My goals: I want to control my amp and multieffects processor (currently no stomboxes) with one foot controller, but at the same time keep the rig as small as possible. Also: The different channels on my amp have different volumes that I need to compensate via the multieffects unit.
More details below, but my main questions are:
1) Midi-only vs. rack based switching system (i.e. Voodoo Lab GXC)?;
2) For either option: What gear would you recommend and why (switcher, cables, and foot controller)?
I have sold a lot of stuff and saved enough, so for this I have no money constraints and want something high quality and long lasting.
My rig:
Amp: Diezel Einstein 50W combo (MOD: CH1 modes are footswitchable)
Rack:
- Furman power conditioner
- TC Electronic G-Major 2
- Wireless
Currently on the floor:
- Midi controller: Behringer FCB
- two button Diezel Channel / Master footswitch* (1/4" stereo plug)
- one button footswitch for amp's reverb (1/4" mono plug)
- three button footswitch for changing CH1 modes* (1/4" stereo plug)
- tuner, wah, pedal power, etc. -> not relevant for this topic
= too much tap dancing!
* I can get rid of either one of these by using the TC's relay switch and controlling via midi.
So, Option A: I use a Midi control switcher (i.e. Voodoo Lab: http://www.voodoolab.com/controlswitcher.htm) to cramp into the back of the combo somehow and make the channel/master, reverb, and CH1 switches midi capable. If I'm not mistaken I suppose I would need five loops, so I could either ditch the reverb or need to find another switcher with more loops. With this solution my rack could stay the same, nice and small. Not a lot of flexibilty for adding another amp in the future (unless the amp is midi-capable, which is more and more likely) ot stompoxes though.
Option B: I use a rack unit (i.e. Voodoo Lab GCX) for switching everything. With this solution I would have more flexibilty but would have to expand my rack = more stuff to lug around.
Thoughts / Opinions? Thanks again!
