Jerry's tone is killer here. Wonder if that is the Fish? Not sure what he was using live then?

Even in Layne's later days he still had excellent vocal chops. His last gig in 96 he was still belting out his vocals while his health was obviously failing. Cornell had good and bad days. Layne was way more consistent.
Fair enough, I just love early Layne more before the heroin took him down.

Yeah, it’s pretty crazy he was still belting out that chorus in “Man In The Box” at those KISS shows, despite seemingly using the mic stand to hold himself up.

Some useless vocal information- Layne utilized speech-level-singing from the very start of his career (basically singing but at speaking volume), while Chris was just going for it in Soundgarden’s heyday and is why they had to cancel quite a few gigs during that heyday. Chris eventually had some major issues to get around and went and got vocal lessons after Soundgarden split and if you listen to any of the live shows for the SG reunion or in the 2010’s you can hear Chris started utilizing speech-level-singing.
