Loved Facelift.
Loved Dirt.

Gave me chills the first time I heard either. I still reminisce about the days when I'd bust open the celo on a new CD, toss it into the car stereo or get 'er home and crank it, and absolutely LOVE every single f'n song on the disk. Haven't had that happen as often or lately for that matter.

Ya, great stuff, period

One of my favourite albums ever. Junkhead and Rooster are my favourite.

Dirt was about the only thing classified as "grunge" that I would listen to when it came out. To me, it's just good music, so I forgave the silly grunge label it got.

I had a thread with all the gear they used on all the albums including song by song break down of amps on the Tripod album.

He did use Dual Rectos and Bogner Marshall along with 5150s on the recording. I have to find the thread now and bump it, it has direct quotes from Jerry from when it was recorded so there is no confusion.

He mostly used a Fish live but not on the actual AIC albums except for maybe one or two songs.

AIC is just magic in a band. One of the reasons I got my Bog was to have the darker tone to mix in with Marshall or Rivera. JC is the master at letting the tone come thru by playing just enough to fit the song. All AIC songs are in my car stereo hard drive.

Black gives way to Blue and Your Decision mean alot to me being 17 years clean and seeing friends and aquaintances go down to addiction.

And remember, friends don't let friends get Friends haircuts.....

That would be great

Great album.

I always thought he used a recto pre Dirt. I think I remember him endorsing Mesa. I know I read somewhere he used Bogner Fish with Mesa power amps.

I've been on a HUGE Dirt kick the past couple weeks! I LOOOOVE AIC...

Mike Starr's bass playing on this album is one of the big reasons I love it as much as I do. Both him and Inez are really great melodic players. I always thought of them as a existing in the same space as Sir Paul in terms of rock bass players - really melodic and interesting, but always playing for the song.

Its such a good album...and the did it in like 6 days or something..and every solo is a one take.
Not sure about that. Jar of Flies was written and recorded in 7 days. Thought Dirt was much more of a process in the studio. Regardless, it's a KILLER album and a rock/metal masterpiece. One of my favorites of all time for sure.

And straight from the horse's mouth, Jerry used a Bogner modified Marshall amp for the tones on Facelift and Dirt.

“I used a Reinhold Bogner–modified Marshall exclusively on Facelift and Dirt,” he says, referring to the Alice in Chains albums. “I love that sound: clear low end with a lot of growl that doesn’t come at the cost of definition.”

So much good stuff on Dirt. One of my favorite albums for inspiration - not to mention tone chasing. It just doesn't get much better.

Life changing for me. The voice, the tones, the darkness, etc... Just WOW from start to finish.

I was backstage at the Lallapalooza tour in Columbus (Buckeye Lake) when AIC headlined with Primus and JC was running a Fish with a Boogie poweramp. I know that there was more but I don't remember what it was.

My Fisch does a pretty sweet Dirt tone!

EPIC!!

Layne and Mike...how very sad...whatta loss.

I love watching Sean play - probably one of the most interesting drummers out there to see play. Hard hitter, but so many subtle things going on too. One of my faves for sure. Jerry is THE man!!

I thought the Fish was used on Dirt Sure sounds like it
Not sure if he used one on the album, but for a while he was using a Fish into a VHT 2150.
