Aiken gold brick cab simulator

The Gold Brick is way ahead of all of it's competitors IMO. There is no comparison between it and a Red Box or Palmer unit. The Palmer is actually about the worst in class from my experience.

I have an older Red Box, I believe MkII and also the palmer and the Radial JDX, I have tested all against a mic on the cab (SM57) and the old redbox sounds the closest of all of them, very close in fact and sounds the most like the cab in the room to me. It also retains the special low mid thing my Bogner amp does better than all of the others. I have heard other players play thru my rig and was very pleased with its sound out front with a very flat EQ on the board. I might be willing to try this to see if its any better but Ive had that Red Box for a long time and it still wins.

Foreigner clips sound good, the gold box sounded more like the original recording, but I still preferred the mic, just sounded more alive.

Would be cool to have us guess the mic versus the gold box in future clips.

This is a pretty cool comparison:

Where I feel these things fall apart more is under gain.

It would help if I could figure out how to get a decent room reverb plug-in set up in Reaper. The room ambience is a dead giveaway on the mic. You're dealing with a couple of rank amateur recording engineer's first attempts here. :)

I think my next clip, when I get some time, might be a blind comparison between the Gold Brick and a few of the best-known units on the market. That would be a good "guess the speaker emulator" contest.

Yup, and throw in a few mic'd cabs too.

Might reach out to Pete Thorn, the clip master.

Any chance for an attenuator or something like the fryette power station in the future?

Are there any updates from people on this unit?

Do any of you guys have one? I'm thinking or ordering one. It'd be very convenient for recording quick demo's and live use in small places.
