Well I guess news that I have left Whitesnake was leaked...
I planned and hoped DC and I could release a joint statement. We will as soon as possible but everything happened so fast that we aren't ready.
Firstly,
Thanks to my big bro David for such a killer run together!! So many songs, tours, projects, always inspiring and pushing each other!
Mostly I was to thank the loyal WS Choir and fans around the world.
You have been so amazing to me and it's been an honor to play for you with WS.
I love you guys and I'll see you all again. Thank you so very much for your unending support.
Also, not sure how or where the info started about a Solo Career but this is not true or correct information.
I have no plans at this time to go solo:) I'm just not in the Whitesnake/David Coverdale band anymore.
I'll let you guys know what I'm doing ASAP but for now please know I very much appreciate your support and will hopefully do a statement with My Brutal Brother DC shortly.
Big love for the Aldrich clan.

hmmm.. sykes?

Might as well.... not that Reb couldn't handle a lot of the lead duties but his tapping everything might take away from some of the leads. Pretty sure they can find a hired gun to do the job. The whole formula is getting a bit old at this point though, Coverdale's voice is gone. Anyone who points me to the latest live video release, please note that Coverdale goes back in the studio to retouch most of his "live" vocals.. I personally think some of these guys should cut down the touring schedule to preserve what little voice they have left. That's just me though. A nice compromise between still putting on live shows but not completely disappointing when you do.

That's a bummer. Don't even know who I could imagine in that band

I agree... I don't know why all the opera singers can belt it out even in old age but some of these younger rock guys lose it like this. Maybe its in the training (or lack there of)... coverdale sounded great on that last album but live he was straining

It's not a bummer if Doug moves on to something relevant and original

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a Burning Rain tour.

It would take someone who knows more about vocal training than the bit i have dabbled in but I would think it is a few things.. for one, natural talent and ability that a lot of Oprah singers possess, the WAY they sing and the techniques used are studied and practice to preserve their voices and allow them not to strain, and the fact that Oprah is not Rock. Rock singing is one of the harder styles on the vocal chords because of the tendency to "distort" some sounds and notes so they sound more well.... "rock". Think of Sebastian Bach...used to sound so damn good with those screamin highs... takes it's toll though. I also think that rock vocalists tend to tour or do more shows than an Oprah singer and take care of their bodies a LOT less. Crushin smokes and beer after every show vs. sipping lemon water and not talking all night are going to result in two very different voices down the line lol.

I like his playing and hope he keeps the creative side alive.

It may not be what he did in the past but it would be interesting to hear what new he might do.

The only thing why I'm disappointed and ask to my mind is: who the hell can replace Doug in WS, now? Vanderberg (Coverdale appeared on his last album as a guest)? DeMartini (I remember he was joining the band in 2003 together with Doug when DC was putting the band together again)? ..SYKES (and this would be a magic news)?!?!? I can accept it only if it's someone at the same level and playing ability like Doug or so. Doug was perfect and was the type of guy that could play those types of Sykes' riffs and solos note for note and he's also really creative and had something to say at least.
I don't know if I can accept this departure... I was finally happy for Doug's success with 'em and I loved expecially Good To Be Bad and most of the tunes of the album.
Now he can probably stay with his family and can compose with all his quietly his stuff with Burning Rain or Steamroller or other bands, but I hope in the next future to know that he could join some other important bands and that this can only be a quantum leap for him...
My dream is to know that Doug could join Ozzy in the next future also for just a small tour or some gigs and it would be great!!

If Sykes joins, I don't know if DC can sing Still of The Night in standard tuning anymore?

But Sykes can!

At least no sour apples on the exit. I hope he gets to find a Winery Dogs type opportunity...
