I am considering putting and Aldrich pickup in my LP.

I tend to like PAF type pickups best. I mostly play Classic Rock to Hard Rock. I consider AIC, Judas Priest, and Iron Maiden Hard Rock.

I play a Boogie Mark V and a 5153 50 Watt and I use my volume knob a lot to change my tone. I like a pickup that cleans up well with the volume rolled back.

These are some tones I like, but I also need it to clean up well:

John Sykes, Brad Gillis on Speak Of The Devil, Aldrich On Burning Rain

Would you guys who have played an Aldrich in a Les Paul recommend it or do you think an another pickup would be better for my application?

Thanks!!!

I have played a les paul with aldrich's in, into my 5150iii and it was KILLER.....perfect for what you are wanting

I had one in my Carvin CT4 and it it was stellar. Set neck mahogany/maple guitar so i think pretty similar. It sounded like a refined version of my JB in my neck-thru LPC.

Lots of guys LOVE the Aldrich in their LP....I have one in a Charvel and its great in that. My LP has the stock pups and I'm inclined to leave them in. But its a great pickup nonetheless.

I had an Aldrich in a LP Standard years ago and was an Awesome pickup. Perfect for everything you mentioned. Cleans up really well.

That's great!

I am thinking of getting a push/pull pot to split the coils.

It sounds great in an LP but it's really hot and far from a PAF. It does clean up allot better then most pickups that are equally hot and sounds great when you split it. I prefer the SSV in the neck though. It has more of the vintage vibe and isn't as dark.

You can put an Aldrich in a Nike and it will sound awesome

All I ever hear are good things about these pickups,, I need to try some!

Thanks, I will look in to the SSV. I have heard it mentioned before as a good pickup for the neck.

I have been playing the Aldrich pups since they came out. The Aldrich and the SSH+ are my faves. You said you like PAF style pickups. The Aldrich is in no way PAF style. The Aldrich is about 16 to 17K. Thats a hell of a lot hotter than a PAF.

If you are dead set on a PAF then get the Suhr Thornbuckers. Great pickups as well but obviously different than the Aldrich.

I put an Aldrich in the bridge of a Les Paul Classic that I own & it's awesome! Tight low end, great distortion without being harsh & cleans up amazingly well!!!

I have PAF's in my Paul right now. I want something hotter and I read that the Aldrich does have some PAF characteristics. I also read that the Aldrich is basically an SSH+, but with 5 - 10 percent more winding. If that is true, why do most people say the difference is more substantial than the difference in the winding? What do you feel is the difference between those two?

Might not be what you're looking for, but I tested out a set of Dimarzio 36th anniversaries in an LP style ( ESP Eclipse) and it sounded pretty nice. I wasn't really expecting alot from them before I plugged them in, but it was ALOT nicer then I was expecting. PAFish but with a little more bite and presence. One of my favorites in a LP is a PRS Tremonti. It's pretty damn hot though.

Put one in my Custom when they came out (with push pull pot) and it's still in there - love it.

Got one in my V and Charvel now

Put one in a custom shop standard and liked it better than my rebel yells..

I tried the SSH+ in the bridge position and tried to like it but ended up going back to the Aldrich. The SSH+ is brighter and not as smooth. The Aldrich sounded better split too.

Thanks, I will be purchasing the Aldrich and SSV. I will get at least one push pull for splitting the Aldrich.
