Alex Lifeson in a box pedal?

Are there any pedals that would pretty much be a late 80s Rush style guitar tone? Alex used so much shit in his rack, but I'm thinking maybe something like the Free The Tone "Future Factory" or "Flight Time" pedals might be a good option. I'm not looking for exact matches to his sound, but a general, wide chorus, stereo delay, etc "all-in'-one" kinda thing.

Check out the Visual Sounds H2o pedal. I had one and it can do that stuff pretty well. Obviously does not have OD on it though, if you want that as well.

I have an H2O on my acoustic pedalboard. . .great sounding pedal! I'm not looking for OD. . .just effects. Don't get me wrong, I have plenty of shit. lol. I'm just curious about Lifeson's big, stereo chorus, layered delay, gates, etc (all that crazy stuff). I really think the Free The Tone pedal might be the ticket.

I am not a huge Rush fan but whenever I feel like playing around with of their tunes, I can't seem to even get closed to that tone. I like the earlier tones though. Not the overly synthy stuff.

GK preamp, 250RL. Not a pedal, but it'll surely nail it...

RUSH and 2112 are my favorites. I stopped listening after Moving Pictures. I'd love to hear Alex and Geddy (with a new drummer), playing rock oriented music. I'd pick Michael Derosier.

Huge Lifeson & Rush fan. To me, Lifeson's effected tones from that era were basically combinations of modulation (chorus), delay (with and without mod) and reverb. I like to have each of those available to me separate so I can mix-and-match. I think modulated delay pedals like the Future Factory are a great place to start if you want something like that in a single pedal, but in the end, it's a modulated delay. If you want just chorus or chorus and reverb for example, I don't know if you can cop that from something like the Future Factory. Maybe?

Hadn't heard the Free the Tone pedals yet. Just watched a great demo/comparison of the Future Factory and Flight Time. Looks like the Flight Time is mono-only. Both sound killer!

Mike,

Get in touch with Dave Phillips at LASD. I remember back in the Huge Racks forum days he built a couple of Rush type pedalboards.
