It seems like it's been really fast, but he's been growing it back out for a few years now. It was shoulder length when I saw them two years ago.

EDIT see Rob's Tone Merchant's post below.

Regarding the gold top EBMM, I heard and this is just a rumor, I maybe wrong but a serious EBMM collector/EBforum member found it on Craigslist in LA and then some Cantrell fanboy from SoCal went and paid for it to get it back. All Jerry did was give him and his son a VIP ticket to the show for his guitar back. I heard the fan was out a little bit of coin for that guitar. The cops didn't want to get involved since the guitar was in LA and it was stolen out of Washington so that's why the fan went and paid for it to get it back.

Like I said I don't know how true this is but this is what I heard. Does not surprise me I heard Jerry was a cheapskate.

Either way if either of you guys are reading I would be interested in hearing the story despite the rumor going around.

If that was the case I would have kept the guitar for myself.

Just kidding.

or am I?

Man... if that’s how it went down that’d be kind bad lame UNLESS the guy didn’t mind. Hell I’d have had the guy come out on stage, have him do a few tunes and give him a JJ!

Like I said it's just a rumor and hope it's not true but I did hear it from a good source... Either way if the fan is happy that got him his guitar back than it really doesn't matter either way. The guitar was stolen from Jerry in the first place. I still would like to know the "real" story.

damm if jerry didn't pay the guy...........

Indeed! Jerry's gotta have a shit ton of great gear, much of which he doesn't play anymore...you'd think he'd give the guy something he doesn't use, at the very least.

I know Tom; some of the above post is somewhat accurate, although I don't know anything about the money part of the deal. It isn't clear if the guy that had the guitar is the one that stole it but yes, it was found on Craigslist in LA. Tom and his son worked directly with Jerry and some others to get the guitar returned.

From what I heard is some dumb kid got the guitar from his Uncle or Dad who actually stole it, kid wasn't old enough to have stolen the guitar or been in Seattle at the time. When I say kid I mean he was like 18, 19 maybe early 20's. He did know it was hot and his dumbass had his girlfriend in the reflection of the guitar so all his social media was exposed.

I think kid was sort of forced to take a low price for the guitar but from what I heard the cops didn't want to help either.

If any of this is wrong I will correct my post as like I said I would like to hear the "real" story but I think my source has it pretty close.

EDIT: SEE ROB'S POST BELOW.

Problem is Jason if you kept the guitar, your committing a felony by being knowingly in receiving stolen property:)

I along with several other people were involved helping Jerry get his guitar back. Here is a brief summary and ill keep it at bullet points as this was actually pretty complex and took a couple of weeks to figure everything out and get the guitar back to Jerry.

In 1991 and 1992, Jerry was recording Degradation trip at Hensons studio in Hollywood Ca.

A few months after finishing the recording of the album, Jerry realized his guitar was missing and subsequently it was determined the guitar was stolen from Hensons and the guitar and suspects were never located.

On March 31st 2018, Tom (great guy) from Florida who collects EBMN EVH saw a Craigs List add listing of a gold EBMM EVH. Because Tom was a collector, he knew the Gold Top EBMM EVH was a rare guitar. The first rarity was the gold top finish and the next was the route for the Floyd was recessed and not on stock EBMM EVHs. Through the coarse of this investigation, we learned that only 26 EBMM EVH gold tops were ever made and only two of those had recessed Floyds. Tom knew that Jerry had one and remembered an interview Jerry gave where he talked about the theft of his guitar given to him personally by Eddie.

Tom believing this might be Jerry's guitar, reached out to someone who knew Dave Friedman. Tom and Dave started communicating and after looking at the photos from the add and photos of Jerry playing the guitar, it was pretty clear it was Jerry's guitar. The dead give away was matching the patterns of the birdseye maple neck. Once it was obvious the guitars were one in the same, Dave contacted Jerry.

Once Jerry saw the pictures, he was convinced it was his guitar and he met with Dave and I to come up with a plan on how to get the guitar back. I had Jerry and Tom write out full complete statements in case we needed to go to law enforcement.

Tom was in contact with the seller who is only 20 years old. The seller told Tom a "family friend/relative gave him the guitar and it was used on many recording and was from Hensons. At this point we were absolutely positive that it was Jerry's guitar.

The plan was to set up a ruse. Tom offered to pay the asking price for the guitar. Tom told the seller that he wired the money to me and that I would inspect the guitar at a public business (Tone Merchants) and I would give the seller the money. This obviously wasn't the case and if he did show up, law enforcement and Jerry would have been on scene.

At this time, the seller went off the grid. Tom offered him an extra $500.00 over the asking price and I reached out to the seller acting as Tom's broker with no response back from the seller.

We were on a time crunch since Jerry had to leave town for his AIC tour. While the seller wasn't born yet at the time of the theft, we believed he knew the guitar was stolen because he was so guarded and then just disappeared.

As I was preparing and organizing the statements from Tom and Jerry to go to Law Enforcement if we couldnt get the guitar back in time before Jerry left on tour, Jerry's management received a phone call from Greg at Rockstar Guitars in San Diego.

Greg sells memorabilia for rock stars looking to offload their gear and other personal items.

A client of Greg's who also collects EBMN EVH saw a new add for the guitar. He contacted Greg and asked Greg if he could buy the guitar for him. Greg had no idea of the situation and met the seller at a Starbucks in San Diego and paid him 6K for the EBMM.

Greg calls his client and says he purchased the guitar. His client them tells him after he spoke to Tom that he believes the guitar is Jerry's stolen guitar. Obviously, poor Greg says O Shit. lol

Greg who is out 6K, makes the correct legal and ethical decision, calls Jerry's management and advises him of the situation. Jerry called me and ask me to speak to Greg, which I did.

Greg drove down to LA and gave Jerry his guitar back at a AIC rehearsal. Jerry is giving Greg a custom Friedman half stack and some other things that they will or have worked out. Greg is an awesome guy and deserves all the respect in the world.

That is basically what happened. There are many other facts on, but since this still might end up going to Law Enforcement, I have chosen not to add that information.

Rob, I would never keep a stolen guitar especially Jerry's that's why I put those emojis there.

In fact I almost sold/traded Jerry a mint condition 85 white Rampage a few years ago but the deal fell apart but thanks for clarifying.

I know buddy, thats why i put a smiley face at the end of the sentence. just bustin your chops.

the police were never notified

Either way I hope that guy recovers his 6k.

Now I am gassing for a EBMM EVH with recessed Floyd. I never knew those were available with a recessed Floyd.

Would like to add that I always thought the EBMM was stolen from Kelly Curtis garage in Seattle but I may have been confusing it with where EVH sent the gear.

I'm such a fanboi, I never noticed but Jerry's blue EBMM EVH is recessed as well. I now need one! I know they probably are rare as hen's teeth but I think that is so cool. You can actually see the recess and it was finished as well not bare wood.

Man Rob that’s some ordeal! Thanks for posting what you could.

Wow thats great ! Yaaah,it worked out and everybodys happy hopefully..not sure about the kid who sold the guitar though ? I am a big fan of Jerrys too !

Layne and Jerry had a few modded Marshalls by Reinhold but none were that special. They did keep going back to the Fish with the modded Shark channel when the original Snorkler or Ronnie C was not available.
not that special? to me, all the old bogner marshalls are pretty damn special. incredibly sexy and great mods. at least a couple people i know have nailed the snorkler facelift tone modding 4010's. it sure ain't a fender. i also have old bassmans, modded by billy zoom, my old neighbor. they sound nothing like the Marshall Bogners. yes, they are amazing. not the same thing. the tube driver is soft mush, they're used for leads, such as "up the beach" on nothing's shocking. the main amp used on dirt was bryan carlstrum's 1979 JMP, which jerry references in the video. THIS is the amp jerry has talked about wanting on several occasions (for obvious reasons), not the Snorkler! this JMP sold recently. this is the amp jerry talks about here. Snorkler is cool as shit, but it's overhyped. the guy who now owns that 1979 modded JMP (not Bogner) didn't pay that an obscene price for it, jerry should have bought it, it was offered to him. a lot of us have old bogner marshalls that sound the same more or less. those amps did not inspire or create the music.
