What is the deal with this and when did it start? A new Gibson Explorer and no case?? A deal breaker for me..no sale. If i'm paying around a grand or over, I expect a hardshell case with my purchase, no matter what brand. Sorry about the rant..I know we usually just talk about amps but..damn, I miss the good old days...

Yup,
A $2 grand Suhr comes with a gig bag.
But a $1200 Fender USA comes with a hard case...go figure

This was what I thought the thread was about...Suhr. Fn shame that you pay 2K and they can't see fit to include a nice GnG case...

That really blew me away. I got a Suhr and it arrived in a gig bag!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The first one I ordered came in a case though, so I was really surprised to see it arrive in a gig bag!!

I don't need any more cases.
I don't use them for gigs, I don't want to store them, my guitars are in guitar racks.
What they should do is give you the option for a case and a discount if you don't get one.
That would be good. But for those of us that gig without guitar racks, and just use a 3 way stand I certainly would much rather transport them in cases rather than a risky gig bag.

Would you guys prefer if prices went up by $100 and all of a sudden you are getting a case "included"? It's all factored in and most companies are trying to compete price-wise with other brands. Not everyone wants a case so by including them and having to charge more they could be losing out on some sales. You always have the option to buy a case of your choosing after the fact.

I do use cases for gigs, but I don't need nearly as many cases as I have guitars so it just takes up extra space I don't have. I'd rather the guita be priced less with no case.

This pisses me off, but really only when you buy something that needs to be shipped to you. I mean come on, the hard case is as much about safe shipping as it is for transporting it later. In person from a guitar shop I couldn't care less, you see a price tag on a thing, it's not assumed that it comes with anything else, and you can always just pick one up while you're there.

Brilliant idea!

I like gig bags b/c you can leave a strap on the guitar and then grab and GO...
BUT, I'm a play at home only fella

Not sure about this..all I know is this wasn't even an issue back in the the day. I dont remember this even entering my mind when I bought guitars. The only thing that was "factored in" was this: You bought a high end guitar, you got a case with it regardless. I'm thinking about all the guitars I had purchased and they all came with cases. I had no idea about this Suhr thing. That blows my mind and I would be extremely disappointed if I bought one only to see it arrive in a gig bag. But you get a Fender Malmsteen or USA strat and you get a case. LOL. Besides, if you are forking over the cash for a John Suhr guitar, Im guessing you arent that concerned if he breaks you for $75 more for a hardshell case with his name on it. But I could be wrong.

Any axe over $1000.00 should automatically come with a case. If you can buy an Ibanez for $1000.00 with a case, other companies can do it to.

The $2000.00 Suhr Pro with a gig bag is a joke. Seriously.

Anyone who doesn't want their Gibson LP case and would rather have a Gibson gig bag, contact me. I will gladly trade you and add cash.

A turd in a case is just that. If you want an overhyped turd with a Gibson or Fender logo on it you are paying too much case or not unless you get a custom shop. Personally my closet doesn't care if its a case or bag and neither hang on my wall.
