Is there a centralized website which contains a good amount, if not all, of info on Jose mods, or is it mostly just word-of-mouth, scattered amongst message boards? I'm assuming the latter. I know a fair bit about Jose, or so I thought.

You could go down the rabbit hole that leads to insanity on the Metro forum, especially the EVH section. I haven't been there in months, mainly because I like it too much. Everytime I start going there I feel myself about to become addicted to what they're addicted to.

This is so true!

Sometimes it good to take Frank Zappa's advice to "shut up and play yer guitar!"

Is there a suggested schematic that people prefer?
Here ya go. Any questions, lemme know...

Why do you have .68 in parenthesis at the presence cap? Is this something you tried?
It isn't my schematic, it is just the Jose schem that has been floating around for awhile so I don't know why the .68 cap is in paren there. I'd use .1 there...

I just found mine stiff and dark...wait a tick Steve; didn't I buy a modded PM from you back in 08?
Yup, I build my own amps now though...

Small world. I modded a PM for Steve....

Was it the one with the 2203 preamp section, PPIMV and lowered filter caps on both mains and screens?

Still have some pics:

And you did a hell of a clean job - amp sounded really nice!

Yeah, I thought about that. I'm intimidated by the flood on information   I guess I want it in a nice, clean format instead of in a message board, mixed in with conjecture and off topic discussion.

Thanks for the suggestion

I've just started modding and building my own stuff here in the last year; mostly started out by just screwing things up at first. I had to get some help on my 68 Metro build since I'm overseas. Strat78 over at the Metro forum is the coolest; he finished it up for me, and it is insane! I hope he doesn't mind me sharing this.

Still a few kinks to work out. This amp is set up with the specs of Ed's main Plexi that Dave Friedman shared over at the Metro Forum; this amp has an O100JM-VZ Output Transformer that seems to be the missing link to making the V2 fat cap and 100k/4 ohm NFB setup work. I think whatever the OT was in Ed's amp back in the day, is the OT that was in the Golden amp and possibly Atomica....maybe Mark C. could fill us in on that one. IMHO, that's pretty crucial to Ed's sound. From what I hear and what I've tried, a C1998 Dagnal just doesn't cut it with Sylvania 6ca7s biased hot at 90v. The top is too sizzly and the low-end falls apart; it just turns to mush. With the Dagnall and even the 1202-132 Drake(both have a 1.75k primary impedance), the 100k/4 ohm NFB setup makes it sounds like your chucking razor blades; the top-end is harsh. THe higher impedance OT rounds out the top end in a way that makes that NFB setup work perfectly...early VH for days. I don't know that this OT is an exact duplicate of what Ed had, but it sounds pretty darn close to me. Yes Curt, the rabbit hole goes on forever.

I tried the YJ's in my old UL. They didnt really knock much volume down.

You can try the mv in front of the tonestack and see how that does. I don't think it works that great in the 1959 circuit though.

did you try just 2 YJ's, or did you have 4?[/quote]I tried 4 and then two at half power mode. I ended up preferring the stock KT88's using the Hotplate. They may work great in your amp though.

go for it Darren.. if you get stuck Steve or myself can walk you thru it. the one that has a 10k series and 100k to ground is also good. easy ..

I don't know if any of u guys are interested but I have the schematic drawn off of Kurt mitchel langer mod amp!if anyone wants it let me know!i have never tried it but I'm thinking about it,bored of stock plexi gain!
