Not soo much a versus topics but why is there such a difference between the 2? The Sig-X is a lot cheaper on the used market than the UL. A Sig-X just went for $1100 on Ebay and there's one in these forums for the same price. You'd be lucky to get an UL for under $1700 used. I thought they were similiar amps? I played a Sig-X once and i did like it.

UL is a flagship amp, and 4 kt-88's is a deferent ball game that than 2 kt-88's.

even though they're claiming 90 or 100watts with the Sig, it's just not the same feel.

the Sig or even an Elmwood M90 feel and play more like a 50 or 60watt amp, than they do a 100 or 120watt amp.

What I found with the Sig-X is that the Sovtek kt88's mushed out after a certain volume on the 100 watt setting. when I replaced those tubes with the Shuguang Kt88/98's the headroom was dramatically increased and it sounded huge. As huge as 4 kt88's? Probably not but it was a massive improvement.

Bro my Elmwood M90 was loud as F$^k. I took it over to bstaleys house and believe me that thing didn't lack volume or tightness. Thick as hell to.

I could be WAY off with this and don't want to spread any bad word...............isn't the Sig-x built differently than the UL?

The Sig-x is a cool amp, I really have VHT gas at the moment and zero gear funds at this time.

Is the Sig-X made in the same Indonesian scrapyard that the JVM is made in?

Dunno. Aren't PCB boards typically made overseas? Maybe it's assembled in the US. Dunno. I've seen enough vids that it has peaked my interest. I'd love to have a channel switcher that I enjoy playing throughout it's range of channels, one with a great fx loop, and one that would allow me to use the piezo on my EBMM JP6 BFR effectively.

Then it must sound great like my JVM vid I made just for you

no matter how you slice it, at $1100 the Sig-x is getting into no brainer teritory. they are nice amps.

How about this:

I've got an Ultra Lead...would it be worth it to pick up a SigX, or are the tones too similar to make it worth it?

+1. I'm thinking of moving my '92 Classic head (Basically an older Ultra Lead with EL34s instead of KT88s) to check out a sig:X. Of course, my 09 UL ain't going anywhere! :D

how about the Coliseum? :D

I've been curious about the Sig:X myself but the Ultra Lead is just so bad ass. Some things that brought the UL to the next level for me were switching the Sovtek KT88's out for something less dark and cold (I went JJ's and got great results), keep the EQ engaged and really spend the time tweaking in search of the sound I had in my head. The Ultra Lead slays and I'm having a hard time picking between it and my Herbert. The Herbie's new though and I still haven't played it with the band.

Back on track...at the price the Ultra Lead's go for now, I say go for it! Killer clean, wicked crunch and monsterous lead with singing solos!

I can easily see the UL sounding better in a loud band setting than the Herbert. Let us know how it works out though.

One thing I didn't mention is that in my classic/80s rock band, they LOVE the Ultra Lead... said it was clearer and had more punch than My Bogners or Mesa Coli III or SLO had. I was surprised because the UL has such an aggressive tone, but hey, works for me!

The Sig X is my favorite channel switcher by any maker. Fryette spent 10 year designing this amp. This is longer than most builders spend on a project as most of you know. I kind of see it as a hybrid between the Deliverance and Pittbull amps. If you look at the different models you well see what I mean.

I was told the power section is much more like the Deliverance as well as some of the features. The 3way voicing switches on each channel reflects the different era's of the Pittbull as the sound has evolved over the last 20 years. They are always updating all there amps all the time as near as I can tell.

The power section of the Sig X is running a bit more on the edge than most power-amps .... this is why it has more of that smaller poweramp feel and why the clean channel is more like a non-master amp than a clean channel. The clean channel very much reminds me of vintage Hiwatt amps. I use my volume a lot on my guitar and the boost function on the clean channel to get different sounds and do not really need more headroom myself. If you really want more head room from the power section I would recommend checking out Tung Sol KT120. They are voiced to be big and clean.

When we did a amp fest a few years ago here this was the most popular channel on the amp once I showed people it does a lot more than clean. Many thought it was the best sound in the room.

If you look at the list price of the amps ... the going used prices make a lot more sense. When I asked Fryette about the price difference I was told ...
The power amp is different .... It is a hybrid of the Deliverance amps power section and Two/Ninety/Two Stereo Power Amplifier. One half the 2/90/2 power amp of course. As well there is no graphic EQ. They also have learned stuff over the years that make it cheaper for them produce. All this effects the list price.

I asked support (Dave) the same question about how and where the Sig X is made ..... he told me all Fryette amps are made and assembled in the USA completely at the Fryette shop. The parts that it is made from are made all over the world ..... just like every other amp made by anyone today. He sent me a bunch of photos of the whole process.

Digital Jams I believe you are right about how they are built. The UL and CLX Pittbull's if I understand are what is called a "master build" This means only one person does the entire build. As you can imagine this would cost more and would be time consuming in several ways.

The new Memphis 30 preamp section I was told is almost identical to the clean and rhythm channels of the Sig X.

Here is my review of the Sig X from the Amplifier Reviews section .... not many amps fit in a mix as well as the Fryette stuff.

viewtopic.php?f=49&t=67154

All the amps that Fryette builds are killer .... it is just a matter of taste and what features you want. ..... and yes they are all different.

For my opinion, Sig x can too many things, but UL can cover everything. From sparkling/cristal cleans to ultimate brootalz. Sig x is good amp too, but it can't do übermetaltones like UL. So, roughly: Sig x goes easily to 80's metal, but beyond that (=more heavy) UL does everything way more better. When comparing cleans and jazz/blues/rock ect. in my opinion they are not far away from each other. Couple friends of mine (marshall-dudes) say that sig-x is better when they try to dial suitable sounds for oldschool rock. Dunno, I'm not an expert on that area.

For me the most important differece between these is that UL gives ultimate definition when playing those überbrootalz in drop tunings. That is my playground and I found out that Sig x can't do it as well as UL can.

Cracks me up, when people say the Sig:X can't do the brootz, thats just funny, unless your trying for supercooped ultra death metal, but that fucker can get brootal as hell.

that being said, I think the UL and SIG:X would make an AMAZING rig, paired together, enough differences in tone to compliment each other VERY WELL.

Are you sure dude? The post above yours says that the UL does everything past 80's metal "way more better" :scared:
