Hi everyone!

I have a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe and I was wondering if anyone has tried an Alnico Gold in that amp. I didn't like the stock speaker at all and replaced it with the stock speaker of my marshall 1922 2X12 cab(which was the only other speaker i owned) which did improve the sound but it was still slightly "farty" for medium gain and solo tones. I've heard really good things about the Vintage 30 which I'm getting to upgrade the speakers in the 212. But I still need a really good speaker for the combo as I carry this for most of my live gigs.

The problem is that where i live, I hardly have any options for amps and since I couldn't afford a twin(the best amp available, which is almost 2000-2100USD here) I bought the Hot Rod. I've replaced V1 with a RCA NOS 12AY7 and the V3 PI with a Mullard NOS 12AT7 which has given it quite a bit of life but the speaker is holding it back. My question basically is that will a Alnico Gold make it sound the best it can(also if its worth it..the alnico gold and blue are both priced at 300USD here) since I can't really invest in another amp for a while due to the lack of options.

My pedals include a MI Audio Tube Zone, Boss BD-2 Blues Driver and a Swollen Pickle MKII for Dirt. Both the tube zone and BD-2 are boosted by a Xotic BB Preamp(one at a time according to requirement). Guitar is Fender Standard Strat with Suhr Fletcher Landaus.

I've also heard some good things about the G12H Heritage in the Hot Rod Deluxe. Anybody tried that one?

Thanks for your time. Looking forward to some replies soon!

I need to liven up my Fender Blues Deluxe as well. I like the amp but as you stated above the speaker is meh, and rather ice picky at times. I'm wondering what a v30 from avatar(hellatone 60) would do for this amp along with a new set of tubes across the board, preamps and power tubes.

I think the Alnico Gold would sound good, but the speaker is half the cost of the Hot Rod Deluxe or at least what it used to go for before Fender raised the prices.

A V30 sounds pretty good, the cleans do suffer a bit. Weber has a speaker with a British cone on a Jensen style magenet structure that is supposedly similar to the Reverend alltone. That is what I would go with. The Eminence Cannibus Rex is another very popular choice for a Hot Rod Deluxe.
