been over in the islands. unreal trip! we took my son's (Alika) girlfriend's (Lene) little sister Lindsey with us (son and girlfriend live on oahu), who is also my daughter's TT's best friend, and it was her first time in a plane. also the first family member to visit Lene since she moved, and that was such a joy to be able to do. The sister's were so happy to see each other! and i tried to be the best tour guide for Linsdey and shared the magic of the islands with her. she's the one of the right next to my wife

all my brothers and sisters reunited there and we had just killer family time

i think we went to the beach every day for 11 days and the surf was up the whole time.
saw brother zachman and his son which was very cool and played through his bradshaw monster!
shot some amazing stuff for a tv show in hawaii i'm trying to put together
ate incredible amounts of the best local food including poi we pounded fresh at my cousins taro farm
saw tons of whales migrating
snorkeled hanauma bay
swam and surfed waikiki
went to waimea and saw 20 foot surf
shot/sightsaw/coordinated fun from sunrise to sunset many days

flew home and ran sound for a classical music performance then did a 2 day shoot this weekend at chris pratt and anna farris's home for a spoof hunting video

Great to talk to you out there, sorry i missed Zach's but i did pop in his store and meet him. Yes, i love it there and it's depressing being back in my crappy state

My wife's parents live half a mile from Hanauma so i have been there a lot. I swam all the way out to Witches Brew once, i thought the beach was MILES away. But i had 2 scuba divers under me as i was snorkeling on top.

Let's see what else did we do....I'll spell these wrong. Hanauma of course, i went to that waterfall in your pic where you son is jumping in. Nasty trail getting there though. I hiked up to the top of the Koauloa mountains, took an hour to get up there but I'm a hiking fool   I also hiked up Koko head, up the railroad tracks. That was just 30 minutes or pure torture  But I plan on doing that a few times every year i go there.

Maiwea was kicking when i was there but since i didn't have any boogie board i just ducked under the waves. Had to get the traditional shaved ice at Matsumoto's, which is my wife's Maiden name, took my daughter on the train at Dole Plantation. Went to Sandy Beach, and my favorite calm type of beach was the one near Bello's air force station, Waimanalo?

Hiked up to the Light house. And i hiked up a few more places in this book i have called the 50 hikes in Oahu. I hear the Stairway To Heaven has been closed down.

Love it there. My wife could get a job there easily at the VA Hospital and I'd leave it all behind and go there. Need to twist her arm.
Pics??

wow man, those were some great pics  ! I've never been to Hawaii, now I want to go!

No, didn't have time. I'd rather swim with the fish in Hawaii rather than catch them :D I do want to do the shark cage thing. And i was there last October and did Scuba Diving in Shark Cove, that was incredible. No sharks there though that day.

Not Waimea...thats the East side braddah ;) Looks like you guys had a nice trip. Hope you got the black beans in the shave ice (or at least ice cream)

Yeah, I'm getting my pics mixed up, but the second pic of my Daughter is Waimea, she's wearing a different outfit. That first one is Waimanalo. Yes, I'm probably spelling it wrong.  I kept calling it Barry Manalo beach

please review the Rap Reiplinger videos posted before proceeding any further...mahalo   ;)

I grew up about 5 minutes from Waimea Bay. You were being watched / guarded by a lifelong friend in the tower - suffice to say you guys were in good hands. Matsumoto's was pretty much a daily stop on the way home from school. Love / hate with the North Shore

2 regrets
i had to do some filming with my son on a day that makapuu was probably the BEST i've ever seen it as far as classic moks...one big blue peak, WAY outside, breaking both ways perfectly. rabbit island was breaking insane as well.
then on the way home from that we had to hurry cause family plans, and china walls was also looking ALL time, and that is hands down the best wave i've surfed when it is on. barrels that turn back the hands of time.

mahalo brah-

i have to say it was surreal spending many days shoving my kids around on boogie boards teaching them how to ride waves and just abandoning the modern world for extended periods of time.
at one point i remember being at my cousin's farm sitting on the soft grass looking at all the green mountains and ferns surrounding me, no cars, perfect cool breeze with air so fresh you could eat it, and a stream so clean you can drink out of it bubbling next to me, thinking i could fall asleep here forever and be ok with it.
humbling beauty.
my hope for all my bro bros is you find some time to "disconnect" soon!

not bad but fix'um bumbai da locals give you stink eye :D

stairway to heaven was nuts dangerous...i'm not much for a 100 foot vertical wood ladder on a windy mountain
another weird one is the little trail to the right of the pali lookout as you walk from the parking lot. the trail dead ends abruptly at a 30 foot cliff!
