I got my sag knob hooked up to my board and I started doing some experiments. I took the voltage down on the Hatters Overdrive, which is the Griffin Analog version of the OCD. It worked out great because there is so much headroom on his version that I was able to compensate for the volume loss from dropping the voltage without breaking noon on the volume knob.
I essentially got the OCD to behave like a gated fuzz, but with a more rounded and full character. I ended up with the voltage between 7-8v, which was the sweet spot. Under around 7v, the Op Amps lost power and the pedal cut out. Just above that though, it did the starved fuzz thing where it fizzled out instead of sustaining. The balance was dialing in the right amout of sustain, which was around 8v. It will be a neat tone to use for a song.
I know running an OCD at 18v usually gives it more headroom and clarity, so dropping the voltage did the opposite. What other pedals can you vary the voltage to get different results?
