Have a Usa san Dimas with a Duncan custom custom. Looking for suggestions on an alternative for the 59 neck. More articulate but still fat (if possible).

Duncan Jazz. A little hotter and tighter than the 59, but still nice and warm.

Dimarzio 36th Anniv or Gibson Burstbucker

Which Burstbucker in particular?
Not the 'Burstbucker Pro' but the regular Burstbuckers, they're Alnico II, the Burstbucker 1 or 2 would be good for the neck position

Thanks. I'll look into those pups.

By the by, what would you suggest for a fatter, higher output neck pup (higher output than the '59 or Jazz) that still has the PAF tone? To pair with a JB in the bridge.

Basically something with more balls and output than a '59.

If the bridge pickup is pretty hot the BB1 may be too clean. I would recommend at least a BB2. Wolfetone Marshallhead neck is nice for rich but not tubby.

The jazz is very clear but lacks low end
Cool pickup for clarity and character though

If you're staying Duncan, try the Alnico II.
Pretty sure that won't be more articulate than a '59 Neck. Way too smooth and round. Had it for a while in a Burny Les Paul Custom, hoping for the good Slash tone. Too muddy to my liking. (mind you, the guitar does have a thick maple cap).

The Dimarzio 36th Anniv PAF neck will do that though. Has more mids than the '59. That pup is in that Les Paul Custom now. Way better.
Only Duncan neck pup I'm considering now in that guitar would be a Pearly Gates neck.

If you're good with magnet swaps, you could try putting an A4 in a '59N...more mids, less mud.

I wasn't fond of the Duncan Jazz; too sterile.
