I just swapped out the stock zinc gibson tailpiece on my les paul with an aluminum tail piece.... am I imagining things or did I just lose all the attack on the low E, A, and D strings? wtf

anyone have similar findings?

Scrfew it all the way down if its not.

I have 3 pauls 2 have AL and one zinc, they all sound great.

Ok, so the tone knob on the bridge pickup was turned down. ... oops My highs are back. I think I hear a tad more sustain with the aluminum but its hard to tell.

Been there.

Studs make a difference too.

I swapped the zinc TP for Aluminum a while ago. Definitely a different sound. Airier, a like more jangle, a little more overtones.

I just swapped the brass studs for steel ones the other day, and definitely heard clearer highs, and a clearer thunk in the lows.

Again, all these differences are on the subtle side if your ears aren't particularly perceptive to tonal changes. But if you're honed in, you can really hear them.

The original Bursts had steel studs and aluminum tailpieces, right?

Where did you get steel studs?

I'm not sure where to get the steel studs but I paid 25 bucks for the tailpiece on ebay, Mayber faber? All in all I probably will not buy another aluminum stop tail for my other guitars- its cool but not necessary.
