Hey guys,
I am stoked to let you know that my Herbert is back from CA where it was getting modded. I have to be honest, I was nervous about sending my baby to anyone that was going to change ANYTHING, because my Herbert is simply the best amp and my "number 1" for gigs. That said, I trust Jon at Wilder Amplification and he did an amazing job!
The mod is on the +/- switch for channel 2. You know the thing that everyone that has ever owned a Herbert always wants to be foot switchable, but "isn't available." Well, Jon did a mod on my Herbert that now allows me to switch the +/- on channel 2 of my Herbert with my midi controller!! Yes, it's true. I already have his new Evolution chip in my Herbert, so I can switch the other functions on/off individually with my midi controller...which BTW is freakin' awesome! Now with this mod I can switch and PROGRAM PRESETS that incorporate the + OR the - of channel 2 without ever touching the switch on the amp!
The switch itself got changed out so now it's like the channel switches, not just an on/off anymore. The LED was also changed, so it's blue when + is activated and green when channel 2 goes into - mode...great idea and cool looking too! It's totally sweet and gives me that last bit of functional control that I have really wanted.
Now, I know there has been things brought up about the volume difference between the + and the - settings on channel 2 and that's why "not" to do this. I gotta tell you I find it to be almost negligible. I can't say it's not there, but I can say it doesn't make a difference for me, especially at stage volume. I can hear a slight volume drop from + to - and a slight volume increase switching from - to +. However, it's just not a significant volume difference. I was afraid it might make the - mode so quiet I couldn't hear it or something, but it doesn't. It switches flawlessly, on the amp or from the controller, and allows me that last level of flexibility from this amazing amp.
I am grateful to Jon and extremely happy with the effort and attention to detail he has. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to be able to get the most out of their Diezel Herbert!!
Thanks to Peter for making the best amps on the planet
