I was a semi-professional reptile breeder in my early 20's. Had success with breeding, but the reptile pet trade was overcrowded at the time and it didn't make for much success as a business. It's what got me into wildlife biology & ecology a led to my degree in that. The original plan was to be a herpetologist but I fell into chemistry when I needed a job, liked it and just stuck with that.
That's really cool! I like how you phrased it, like falling into a backup career in chemistry is no big deal. Lol. I hear you - my degree was in journalism, and I thank God most days that I never pursued that awful career path.

I bet Jon Voight would pay a lot of money to take back his decision to be in that movie. Or at least to attempt that accent.
No kidding, I kept saying to myself "that can't be Jon Voight, he wouldn't do this". The cartoon snake just gets a deep sigh.

I think you made a good choice not perusing journalism. At least what gets presented in public that field looks like it's a complete shit-show. Way too politically polarized no matter what side of that isle you fall on. I miss the days of actual investigative journalism with real stories and just saying what happened for the day without extra commentary. Now it's just a bunch of talking heads and opinion pieces. Not to mention the internet all but killing the printed page. Hindsight's 20/20, right.

Yeah it's really weird how things turn out. You end up taking all the core classes for biology, chemistry, & physics with a science major. One of my chemistry professors had me come to his office after class and tried to convince me to switch majors to analytical chemistry. I wasn't interested at the time. And even though I aced the organic chem lab, I had a hard time in the lecture. Of course my main career path would be an analytical organic chemist and end up supervising the State lab organic chem department for the last decade.
