I think that he sent it to HC guys since he has been on HC for quite a while, and knows the guys there. Also with the number of people at HC publicity there could translate into more sales.

1. Those pics are really bad. The poor light, and fuzziness are very unflattering for any amp. Take it outside during the day, and get some nice pics of it on some black sheets or something.
2. You could have better gutshots without giving away your secrets or whatever.
3. Looks nice though, and $1250 sounds like a killer deal.
4.Is the FX loop in the right spot in the signal chain, or is it like an SLO?

Gutshots you don't have to do, it's your call.
However you definitely need better pics of the amp.

actually, i do have better pics of the chassis. i just snapped those at the same time as the gut shots. i think i might even have better gut shots too.
the tube loop is in the wrong place, but i can put the SS loop anywhere. i plan to put it between the TS and PI. i guess i could move the tube loop too, but it's not a very good loop to begin with. i really need to come up with a better design. in all honesty, a tube loop can never be as good as a good SS loop. i know that upsets the tube purists, but it's the truth.
i haven't thought a lot about power scaling. i didn't know that everybody was using the same thing, either...although i'm not really surprised.
as for the passaround, and who's involved...i didn't think it would be cool to show up here and say "hey guys, i build amps. try this one out and then buy one from me". i refused quite a few people over there simply because they were asshats or not someone that i deemed worthy of trust. i've been at HCAF for a couple years now, and i'm known. i felt ok asking guys over there to do me the favor of trying an amp, giving me their feedback on it, and then shipping it to the next guy on their dime. it was really more about my comfort level, and what i was willing to ask people to do for me.

This is the power scaling kit that I am going to install in my Peters this weekend (as long as Canada post doesn't screw up again).

Also the price is in Canadian dollars so that is basically 25% cheaper for the kit if you want to try one out. Also Kevin is a great guy to deal with. He has answered many questions that I have had. He also writes some of the best books on tube amp design. Also I think that he sells more kits, and books then amps. That is what his focus is.

His books are what I am using to start my design. I am working on something a bit different then your amp. It is going to be 50 watts, toroidal transformers, and I am hoping to come in at under 30 lbs for the head. I don't think I will be selling it so much as making it for my enjoyment, but I have some interesting preamp ideas inspired from his books.

i started building amps for the same reason.
then the economy eliminated my job, and i can't find one. now my hobby gets to pay the mortgage....i hope.
i never had any intentions of starting an amp business, it just worked out that way.

Hey man - I don't think you owe anybody pictures of anything as far as close-ups of your work or anything like that. If he doesn't want to buy one, then don't buy one! I don't think you'll have any problem finding a market without having to post detailed gut shots. Look, even the closeups of my amp project I've posted don't tell you how well I can solder - it is ridiculous. Also, to me, soldering is a low-level skill. Anybody building an amp will be able to solder. The gut shots you've posted clearly show you know how to keep things neat and professional...titanamps":j2nu9mc4 said:

I think the one and only timesgut shots are necessary is when an exsisting amp has been modded..Or...A new amp company such as yourself is trying to get going but...only a regular oridinary everyday picture to give people an idea of the "cleanliness" of the wiring and work. Close up,detailed pics of boards and such...Hell no! And why people will ask for such things is just really a sign of no life other than bugging/trolling....Anyways....Good Luck!! $1250.00 ?? Hmm??

I have an idea! Just get something, like a black epoxy and put it over your work! Then take pics! I am sure nobody would be against that.

i offered to take a close up pic of the BOTTOM of a board that i'm working on, since that's where the solder work is.
his response?

he even said "i'm not trying to steal your design or anything". who brought that up? i didn't. why would he even be thinking that that i would think that?

the guy is just a tire kicker or a builder that wants to see what i'm doing. either way, i never intended to play ball with him.

From looking at the chassis layout... how much does this have in common with an SLO?

the first amp i built was an SLO clone. i wasn't satisfied with it, so i started modding it. this is the final result of me making an amp sound like i want an amp to sound. i've changed things in just about every section of the amp...preamp is different, power section is different, NFB loop is different...

What is very important to me is the amps "Feel"...I can get damn near any amp sounding the way I like and there's alot of amps that sound awesome but, If I'm playing an amp that sounds great but feels like it's in the other room.....Can't deal with it....

yeah, feel is VERY hard to convey through clips. hell, tone is hard to convey through clips.
if you tell me some amps that have the right feel and some that have the wrong feel, i'll tell you which ones my amp is like...if i've played them.
like, don't tell me which group is which, just sorta lump some together.

First, the clear shots of your amps look great (I'm no amp builder / expert). A few more clips would be great to hear the sound/tone your amps are going for.
Second, I don't even bother with HC, and only occasionally go to HRI mostly to lurk. A few other targeted forums specific to gear I own. But...
This is my fav site, frankly, for all things guitar (would be nice to have a bass topic here though too), amp, effects, etc.
You will get insightful and accurate honest opinions here from everything I've seen. These are some of the most civil musicians I've ever encountered in such large numbers, even in our off topic rants! I think the fact that many builders are active here speaks volumes on the quality of this site. The moderators keep the trolling and bs near zero.
No amp is going to work for everyone, but if it does work for the target sound you and some people here are after, you will likely build a loyal customer base.
If I was building gear, this is where I'd be communicating my message. Given the large amounts of high end gear that is used, bought, sold, traded, etc. here, you'd be in good company.
My $0.02 worth.
