Amp Modders Comparison

I have owned ALOT of amps thru the past 30 years of playing.........
From no names.....to the boutiques......
and this one is in the top 3.
It handles what I play perfect.
May not be perfect for anyone else.....
but I am into Hard rock with some old school Thrash (Metallica/Slayer/Testament...etc)
and this bad boy BRINGS IT!

I own a Friedman KS and have a Fortin Cali that should be done any time. Comparison clips to follow...
  That will definitely help a lot.

Thanks also for the info on Bray. I am looking for a more tight and modern mod, while still retaining some plexi, vintage qualities, so I guess he is off the table for me.

Mailman's JCM sounded amazing. I'll have to wait for some kind of response from the FJA fourms. Not the most lively, quick people. I may just e-mail him if I don't get a response soon.

I just remembered CAswell's 39 mod. Anyone tried or heard that?

Everyone is also right that anyone one of these people will do a great job. We are all lucky to have so many talented amp techs.

Just for the record, you posted on my forum at 7PM Saturday night, I don't work weekends. I do check forums thoughout the weekend as I have time, but my normal hours are 11AM-6PM M-F.
At the moment my mother is sitting in a hospital awaiting a brain biopsy and it's less than a week before Christmas so my responses will be slow. With the amount of work I have coming thru the door everyday, if you are looking for something fast and sloppy I'm not your guy. My mods take 2-3 weeks when it's not the holiday season and my mom isn't in the hospital.
I just responded to your message on my forum. Email is probably the best way to reach me these days.

That clip was done By Nick (Dawnofdreamx97) when he got the amp back from Jerry(FJA MODS)
That is the guitar straight into the amp. Nothing else.
It really does sound that good if not better in person.
Also the Low gain channel is pure AC/DC to EVH Brown sound.
For about $400 is what I believe FJA is charging for that mod.

This amp has my 80's mod + which is $375. It also has a few other add on mods and 6550 power tubes. The diode clipping is only used for the push/pull compression mod.
Glad to hear you still dig it! Nick really kicked ass with his playing and recording the clip.
Jerry

Yeah Jerry, this amp is really rocking.
Sorry to hear about your Mom. Best wishes for her.
GUYS.....if you want a KICK ASS MOD....
its worth the wait.
I still floor people when they hear it for the first time.
They are looking all around for the overdrive pedal!
This one sounds great just straight in.
Too bad my clips dont do it justice!!

Props to Nick for making a great recording!!
But it actually sounds BETTER when its smashing you while standing in front of it!! :D

Thanks Dan. She's been in the hospital for 3 weeks and it looks like she'll be there for Christmas too. The last few months has been rough here.

Sorry to hear this Jerry. Prayers for you and your family.

Sorry about the comment earlier Jerry. I did not want to bother you, so I posted on your forum hoping someone else could help. I am sorry that you had to be the one to respond. Hope your mother gets better soon.

Based on the clips i've heard in this forum, it would be the triple "F"

Fortin
Friedman
FJA

In no particular order. You can never go with these 3.

I am assuming VoodooChild24 meant to say never go wrong with these 3 and I totally agree.

Like everyone is saying, probably can't go wrong with any of these guys. I love my Friedman Kitchen sink so much, I think I'm at the end of the Marshall Mod road. Love the Camerons I've had and heard but in the end, Dave's sounds just as great if not better with all of the options. I have always liked the clips of the FJA stuff, sounds killer. By the way I wish Jerry well with the problems with his Mom. I went through that with mine a few years ago, not easy.
The advice I would give is whoever you go with, get a versatile mod. WHen I get sick of the diode clipping, AKA the Jose Master sound or sat switch, and then look for something more organic. Thats when I play the Hairy Brown eye which is an extra tube stage. When I get tired of that I can go to the Brown eye mod for some classic sounds. if I want a bit of treble I can pul the custom 45. If I want some more bottom I can add a few clicks to the fat switch. My point is that you tend to get fatigued with any one sound mod no matter how great IMO. Thats also why I keep my Uberschall around, when I get sick of Marshall period, I can knock the walls down with that thing!

 Yeah man, the Uber is better than the old 3 pigs and the wolf deal. I'm gonna huff! I'm gonna puff! Ah, screw it I will just do a lil chuga chuga lick on the Uber. :hys:

hey Jerry, Nick always had good things to say about your amp work. The amp you did for him would have never left him if not for an amp he had in the works already before you did the amp for him. The guy Nick sold it to was also a friend of mine and he loved the amp also. That guy quit playing out hence the sale again. Nick has said to me more than a few times he see's himself getting you to do another sometime in the future. Good luck with the family and have the best Holiday possible.

Jerry is the man !

Anytime i need something he does it for me. Whether it be a killer mod idea or a stupid whacky pedal / loop / switching crazy thing he always comes up with a solution. I would have kept that amp but needed a 100 watter. I have plans to send jerry another amp shortly, i've been looking for the right one... (79 jmp 100 watt ) :D

Ps - Jerry happy holidays man, and hope moms is ok!
