5150 head or Avatar Contemporary 2x12 with Celestion Alnico Golds? Right now my amplification gear is as such.

Amps:
Marshall AVT50H
B.K. Butler Tube Driver (yes it's a 100w head, not the pedal)

Cabs:
Mesa Boogie Recto 4x12 Vintage 30's

If I get the 5150 then my Metal rig will be pretty fucking bitchin, but it won't be much different than what my Marshall gives me now, just a little better at it, and I'll be able to gig with it. If I get the cab I can have essentially two setups, one metal and one clean/classic rock. Like this.

Rig 1:
Marshall AT50H > Recto 4x12

Rig 2:
B.K. Butler Tube Driver > Avatar Celestion Golds

What do you think?

I'd say the 5150 would be A LOT better than that AVT.

i wouldnt say alot, depends on the exact amplifier. peavey's quality is all over the place with those things. just depends on the amplifier and whether you have no plans to upgrade components down the road.

i would say get the 5150 - for blues i dont think of AVT as the main amplifier - and 5150's can pull off some serious bluesy stuff in the clean and crunch setup.

I had an AVT50 halfstack, moved to 5150 with a Marshall 212. HUGE difference.

+1 for the head.
