Just LISTEN

Thats all I'm saying

check out the virtual acoustic !!

It's a plugin right? So are you factoring the price of a computer and interface? The samples sound good but just to be fair...

Yeah, all things being fair thats true - but my pc does more than just play amp sims - its a DAW, Office Comp, Game PC ... etc

I'm just amazed that noone else has mentioned these "plugins" here on rig !

These are the 1st "ampsims" that have got me feelling

If this and studio devil are for real - then my tube amps are going BYE BYE !!!

and you just gotta admit that "HOT DAY" is pretty killer for a plug in !

Agreed. This is pretty damn good sounding and the "hot day" seemed to have some dynamics.

I'm a total newb when it comes to this stuff...so what would I all need to buy to be able to use this(please include software, programs, sound card, etc)??? I don't use my PC for playing/recording guitar at all right now.

Sure, but are you gonna take that PC out and gig it?

Nope - thats what my cheapie laptop & boogie simul-class 295 are for

Honestly, I can't believe that anyone would take a $2K axe fx unit out on the road night after night either

I just wish studio devil was a stand alone like overloud and not a "plug-in." Theres a link on the studio devil page to a rack unit designed for playing any VST plugins live in real-time (cool !) but the price again $2K go figure !

whats wrong with gigging with a pc anyway - thats what axe fx is

I see keyboard players using laptops all time & I thought, why not !!

a software preamp into a tube power amp = :D

Hell if you think about there will come a day in the not to distant future when a band comes into a gig where each member will have their enitre rig on an ipod

I'm not trying to dis axe fx - it is what it is.

I just hoped someone here would be as interested in these sims as I am - could be maybe I was wrong ?

There's been a lot of talk here about Revalver...

98.9 % newb here

A Host Program (like Cubase - Sonar - Apple Logic Studio etc ) to run the VST. That and a decent audio card and a computer with the typical minimum specs:

Windows XP or Vista
Intel/AMD Prozessor 1.4 GHz
512 MB RAM

This overloud program is stand alone do if I'm not mistaken no host is required - theres a free trial period download page on the site. I'll be installing it tonight - I'll post the results asap.

Theres lot (A LOT !!!) of free (& Hacked) stuff out there. VST plug-ins and stand alone programs out there - some good & some not so good (as in memory hogs  )

If you decide to hunting down some of these "hacked freebies" be aware theres a shit load of trojans as out there as well (keep your virus protection updated and disabling the active/java scripting is highly recommended !!). FWIW - also temporarily disable your windows updater and system restore - you'll thank me later ! I got hit with win32updll.exe last week and it took out my system restore file

I'm realtively new to the "digital guitar realm" myself so don't feel bad theres some things I'm still trying to figure out. :aww:

There's been a lot of talk here about Revalver...

nice revalver demo -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cu2xW-CXz04&feature=related

actually I've been wanting to install the free demo version ever since I read about using another amp-sim program like (rig3 or overloud) and being able to run that directly into the power section of Revalver III.

using the best of both worlds - a killer pre sim with revalvers power amps (which based on the clips heard and info read is where revalvers strength really shines)

I come across several different amp sim programs lately that each have valid merit (good enough to have me seriously considering selling my splawns marshalls & fenders).

I'm always think of how bands like areosmith & metallicka' got the their sound = multiple amps at once.

so why not multiple lap tops running sims ??

There's some great playing on those but I don't really care much for the way they sound. Was the overload hot day one supposed to be a rolled back tone? In any event, I don't hear the versatility and rich midrange in these clips that I hear in the Axe-Fx and I'm hearing an indesirable crispiness in most of the presets with gain. Dimi Solo sounded good but again, I think it was missing the midrange I'd be looking for.

Different strokes for different folks. I'd rather pay the extra money for the Axe-Fx. Plus it looks purty in my recording desk.

point well taken and agreed different strokes.

now that you mention it , that probably the biggest difference in our like / dislike of those clips = MIDS !

Some like the mids SMOOTH and others prefer RAW

I like RAW mids cause I can always smooth them out. Its always harder for me to get a raw tone out SMOOTH mids !

I think if more people understood and remembered that this stuff is so subjectively based, there would be a lot less bickering over what gear is the "best" and more talk about just having fun with the gear/tools. Not that bickering can't be fun... :)

BTW thanks for the replys

and I just forgot to mention that the overloud program is
a FREE 14 Day TRIAL

I hear that !

and at the risk of repeating myself - I am freakin amazed at the amount guitar sims out there.

more, at the innovative ideas on the "synth boards" for recording killer guitar tracks using software not really intended for guitar.

The last few weeks have been like x-mas in november for me (kid in a candy store).

Its official I am a Binary Guitarist (go figure I love GARBAGE)

Wow.. That thing sounds terrific IMO...

I gotta say, this technology is really coming into it's own. I did a comparison between my Revalver MKIII and my real amps today. Unfortunately, for recording, the Revalver simply sounds WAYYY better.

About that...I have about every amp plug-in, the AxeFx and 20 amps...
I have used a laptop to run vst fx on my wet/dry set up. But simply put, I rather not treat my laptop like my gear since I doubt it would survive. Used plug-ins on some tunes on a my last album.
As for guys not gigging the Axe...30+ shows in August/September...

I only have about 5 gigs with my axe-fx standard, but one was outside - 40 degrees weather and fairly humid, Axe didn't hiccup a bit.
