I have owned 3 VH140C's. I live in St.Louis, so they were a very common amp for me to get. They SLAY for metal BUT...
I will tell you what your problem is right now. You might not want to hear it.
The VH140C is a stereo amp. It uses 2x70 watt power amps. When one goes out, it completely fucks with the amp and hence, the volume swells. That is what is happening, one of your power amps is going out. Trust me, I have experienced it so many times. I don't know what to tell you to do since SLM has pretty much folded. If you can find a great tech and get a power amp fix that can work, it's your best bet.
