I just got my iRig cable and downloaded the full Amplitube app for my iPhone 4. It's pretty cool. A nice little tool for practicing on the couch or in bed. The cable works great for the TC Polytune app as well. You can upload songs into it as well and jam along with them. You have to upload the songs with a Wi-Fi connection though. It's got 4 amp models: clean, crunch, lead and metal and a bass amp and has 11 different effects: delay, fuzz, distortion, overdrive, wah, env filter, chorus, flanger, phaser, octave and a noise filter. It's got 4 cab models: 1x12, 2x12, 4x12A, 4x12B and 1x15. It's also got 2 mics to choose from.36 presets can be saved and recalled. The wah is pretty cool. You can set it to auto wah or you can rock the iPhone or touch or iPad back and forth to get your wah sounds. If you've got an iPhone, iPod touch or iPad check it out. http://www.ikmultimedia.com/irig/features/
Here's a couple of videos:

I'm gonna grab that adapter for sure. Have the free version of the app for now until I do. I have one of the PRS cables for iPhone and it's just kind of a pain. Like the idea of this much better. Have you gotten any cool clean tones? That seems to be what people complain about most with these apps.

Yeah, I messed around a little trying to get a clean sound. I mainly was going for a 60's clean surf guitar type sound to show my dad. He plays a little and that's the stuff he's into. It did that very well. I plan on messing with it a little more over the weekend. I'm definitely going to be using the cable with the TC Polytune app.

I saw this but figured it wouldn't be worth it,seems like a
good practice tool.
Has anybody tried it thru an amp yet?

Thanks for the interest! Most of the videos that people have been doing seem to run through amps (or powered speakers too) - you can check out the ones we've favorited on our YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/ikmultimedia.

We're looking at the Droid platform with interest and scoping out the market and hardware available but there's no development or decision at this point.

People are saying the tones are good, I'll post the major reviews link at the end of this and you can hear the tones via those user-created videos mentioned in our favorites on YouTube.

The reason you have to import tunes is because the internal iPod app runs at 1024 samples which is WAY more than AmpliTube For iPhone does so we'd have to match that and it would be unusable due to tremendous latency introduced.

Here are the app links and a link to reviews just for reference if anybody needs them:

AmpliTube Free: 3 stompboxes, 1 amp+cabinet, 2 microphones
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/amplitub ... 09342?mt=8

AmpliTube LE: 5 stompboxes, 1 amplifier + cabinet, 2 microphones - $2.99/€2.39
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/amplitub ... 07300?mt=8

AmpliTube: 11 stompboxes, 5 amps + cabinets, 2 microphones - $19.99/€15.99
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/amplitub ... 24000?mt=8

And still lots of great reviews coming in: http://bit.ly/irigreviews

The iPad native version of AmpliTube is in the App Store now too for those with iPad. Here's a cool "picture-in-picture" video that creates a looped-style piece, done with AmpliTube iRig (on iPhone): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=laPaZiqmPrM

Also, check out Dave Matthews Band bassist Stefan Lessard showing off iRig (getting some convincing DMB tones out of iRig) and also showing off his live rig using Mac Minis and AmpliTube/Ampeg SVX! http://bit.ly/ny1pre

Not yet, but that's an interesting idea. It's definitely worth it. $60 total for something that blows away the Line 6 crap is a great deal, IMO.

Has anbody seen any decent high-gain clips yet? I'm real interested in of these as a replacement for a Vox Amplug, but I need distortion good enough to practice with. I'm also looking at the Pocket Pod as an alternative, but I use an iPhone for work and practice guitar on downtime between orders (it's a food delivery service), so the iPhone is always on hand.

I think you'll dig it man. You can go with the the clean amp and add the Distortion or fuzz or overdrive to get you there. Or use the Marshall crunch amp and add the overdrive or distortion or fuzz or use the Mesa amp with the same stomps already mentioned. It's gets pretty crazy high gain sounds if you stack the amps and pedals right. If you already have an iPhone it's ano brainer man. It is so convenient having it in your phone. Highly recommend it.

I agree. Its a great practice / composing tool. You could import an mp3 of a song your working on and loop it to work out lead lines and whatnot. I wouldnt use this to gig or anything but for what it is...a $50 practice tool in a device I always have around. Its perfect.

Wow, thanks for all the discussion. I'm a big fan of the Fuzz pedal, but victim5150 pretty much says it all about stacking the amps and effects so that's all covered. We'll have more gear coming too, and more features and such too. Recording and slowdown are the two I can't wait for.

The literature states that it can be connected to a mixer via a 1/8" mini jack. So, how exactly do you do that? In other words, what type of cable config would I need. On one end of the cable I'd need the 1/8" mini jack ... what's on the other end?

get an 1/8th to xlr male prob

It would be pretty funny if iRig (a $60 solution) ended getting me the recorded tone I've been after...

Oh man, recording will be the shiznit!

And talk about an easy to carry around emergency backup rig. If your amp goes down in a show plug it in direct and go with your favorite amp preset. Granted you'll have to manually change the presets with your hands or have a buddy do it for you to go from clean to rhythm to leads but you could finish your set. Hell, you could even tell your audience "hey look, my amp blew but I'm going to finish the set with my iPhone, buy me a drink and I'll show you how it works!"
