And talk about an easy to carry around emergency backup rig. If your amp goes down in a show plug it in direct and go with your favorite amp preset. Granted you'll have to manually change the presets with your hands or have a buddy do it for you to go from clean to rhythm to leads but you could finish your set. Hell, you could even tell your audience "hey look, my amp blew but I'm going to finish the set with my iPhone, buy me a drink and I'll show you how it works!"
WE'LL buy you a drink if you do that :)

The literature states that it can be connected to a mixer via a 1/8" mini jack. So, how exactly do you do that? In other words, what type of cable config would I need. On one end of the cable I'd need the 1/8" mini jack ... what's on the other end?
There's a sheet of instructions that come with it that give both text and pictorial representation of the proper leads/adapters to use. Basically 1/8" stereo to 2 x RCA or 2 1/4" MONO jacks only. NEVER use STEREO headphone 1/8" to 1/4" adapters or splitters.

EDIT - attached a quick pic of the sheet

"Connects the stereo output of portable CD player, Walkman, camcorder, etc., to a single XLR line input on a mixing console. Sums left and right stereo signals to a single mono feed."

Maybe what I really need is this?

 Too funny. Hopefully it won't come to that but in a bind I have full confidence that the Amplitube app could save my ass and get me through the show.

That second one might be your best shot but you really don't need to go into mic preamps after a sim, much better to go into the 1/4" mono inputs if you got 'em with the cable that's on the sheet.

Finally got the cables I needed to hook up the iRig to the PA system at our rehearsal studio. We have a full JBL Pro Series PA with a Midas board. It sounded killer. The guys in my band we're blown away. I was jamming to some backing tracks and some mp3's as the guys walked in for practice. They about died when I showed them that it was my iPhone. They couldn't believe it. It sounded really good. I have no doubt now that I could use this at a show as a back up rig if God forbid something happened to my amp. I could plug this up to the PA and finish a set or show. An emergency backup rig that fits in your back pocket. Sweeeeet!

Can anybody confirm if this is working ok on a 3G? I'd love to get it, but I'm not sure if the older hardware will keep up with it.
Thx!

I can seem me putting the iPad on the floor and use it as a pedal board barefooted and well sure you know what happens next...

Thanks, yes it works with the 3G as has been pointed out. We've updated the Free and LE versions to 1.0.2 to fix an issue some folks were having with add-on gear not showing up. Please update ASAP if using either of these versions.

Also, we've launched an iRig summer contest so if you'd like to win one of 10 prizes (including StompIO, AmpliTube 3, and more) take a look at http://www.ikmultimedia.com/irigtoday

Thanks!

We have only looked at the platform but have not done any coding for it. It remains a contender for development, though, because of its broad market and interest shown. We still haven't decided to do anything, though, so don't expect something to be released soon, sorry.
