About a year ago, I got challenged by a good friend of mine who works with documentaries: You should make a documentary about amps! Me?

We share offices and he'd heard me rant on about guitars and guitar amps for a long time, so even though he doesn't play guitar, I guess he got interested ...

Long story short: We went to Los Angeles, hired a small crew, shot a few interviews. Dan Boul (65 amps), Reinhold Bogner, Joe Morgan and a few more TBA :-D

Check it out:

So far, we’ve managed to capture some great stories – and we will be releasing more shorts from the pilot in the weeks to come. We just have to edit them first :-)

However, the documentary is still in the making.
So, if you have any great ideas or would otherwise like to contribute, we'd love to hear from you! You can subscribe to our newsletter, follow us on facebook or send us an email (or pm me).

I hope you will follow us on this journey.

Thanks!

Jean

Interview someone who has filed for bankruptcy because of their GAS.

This, also find people who's gas has ruined their relationships. Also, you should have people discuss they're clever tactics for getting their spouses to not freak out over costs associated.

Do a buyer contrast piece where you talk about Dumble and the current going rate of them versus the basement warrior scraping pennies together and researching in order to buy the most modest of rigs.

My girlfriend MUST NOT see this......must not see this....must not see this...

Only discuss gear purchases after you have seriously worked it. And then there has to be some splurge thing for her.

Ever notice how how women will do all kinds of stupid shit for the bad boy that taps that ass good? Be that guy.

You should talk to Gerald Weber and Mark Sampson...two of the "godfathers" of the boutique amp. Perhaps talk to JM at Trainwreck as well...super cool guy who could speak at length on Ken Fischer's legacy.

I like it  Very cool. Peter Stroud sold me my 1st "real" guitar; a Charvel which is the red guitar in my Avatar.

I could be a subject.... But my life hasn't gone to hell over it, so I guess I'd be boring...

My wife was saying I should get Steve's zebra stripe explorer copy. It's about keeping her happy and engaged in your hobbies as well. That isn't a gimmick. I know women get jealous of music. Seen it in friends wives. As long as she knows she is number one, I think that goes a long way.

In a similar vein, Film a dude who can't play worth sh*t but owns and plays thru something like a $10,000 Dumble.

Very excited to see the completed film!

Thanks for comments and suggs, guys!

A Dumble interview def high on our wish list, but so is world peace. I'm not sure which will come first ;-)

Next step for us now is to do a player's perspective of some kind - with soundclips of the amps in question (not limited to the builders so far).

Send me a pm if you can get hold of Joe Bonamassa or John Mayer ;-)

There is a whole history of pioneers long before this latest crop of TGP boutique companies-morgan/65amps-came about. Are you going to be giving a coherent history of the guitar amp, its beginnings (fender), the need for more volume (Marshall), the need for more gain (modding and the start of boutique- mesa, soldano..) then the resurgence of vintage in the early nineties and only then comes the reduction in volume fad and all the makers of these style amps. Seems like you are starting at the end? I could be wrong tho... wouldnt be the first time
