I like their pedals a lot so I guess they would make a good amp too. That amp sounds great. Lots of gain and growl but not much fizziness. I'm visiting Australia soon. I'll have to see if a store in Sydney has one to check out.

Yeah if you get the opportunity to try one while your in Sydney let me/us know what your impression is of the amp.
 
I own a Sherlock poweramp and have owned one of his preamps. The poweramp is absolutely awesome but heavy.

His Fat Head is a highly revered amp down under with bands like Karnivool etc using them.

The MI Audio is meant to be really good too. I have tested the Megalith out (twice) and was left kinda cold.

It can sound hugely thick and smooth and every owner I've talked to loved it but I didn't gel with it. I just couldn't get a gain tone I liked out of it TBH. I really wanted to love it though!

I think the Fat Head 50 watter sounds like a bargain and that is an amp I'd consider in the future if I couldn't pick up a SH 100w FH...though an Orange TH100 might be the amp I get next...next being in the next couple of years.

I hope so. My family live three hours out though so unless it's on the way to the airport on the way home I'm not sure I'll be able to. They don't do dealers and only sell direct out of their workshop just outside of downtown Sydney. They said they're friendly to people coming by though. Something I thought was really cool was you can rent the amps to see if you really like them before you buy. I wish some high dollar companies or stores had that going on here. Have the one that get's rented out while you have the fresh ones for sale. You would make up your dealer cost on the rental in short order I would imagine.

..update......holy crap! The Revelation model is $3699. BUt they will ship it anywhere in the world for free :lol: :LOL:

I own a Shelock Fat Head and it is an awesome amp from clean to heavy hi gain, extremely versatile. Sold all my other amps. Dale (the builder), is excellent to deal with also. He is making me some 1x12 cabs at the moment. I have been rocking the Fat Head for about 5 years now. He also makes a few other types of amps that are stellar also, Bufftone, clean 100w 6l6 amp and the vintage or reverb 30, el84 based I think.

The Mi Amplification Revelation, Megalith and Iron Duke are all top notch too. Megalith is supposed to be a heavy high gain to rival engl and it does, but also has the ability to clean up and get bluesier and more mellow type tones. The Iron Duke is like a modded Marshall type deal but has its own thing going on and a great clean channel. The Revelation is similar to the Sherlock FatHead, in that it has a heap of bells and whistles. Probably more than the Fathead. There aare a few others made down here as well that are up there with the best. We are fairly fortunate. All top notch guys with excellent serice too.

There are two shops that deal the Mi Amps that I know of, Deluxe Guitars in South Melbourne Victoria and River Music in Windsor (?) which is about 45min- hour out of Sydney I think. All these amps are excellent buys/value for the money. Pete Reynolds from River Music also makes amps that are pure tone and bomb proof, more old school vintage type tone.

I love his gear but TBH Dale Sherlock is an arsehole of a bloke...seriously a total f'n arsehole.

If he didn't make such good gear I would have nothing to do with him ever again. He has the customer service skills of a prick. I walked out on him the last time I was there as he is such a tool...it could have gotten ugly if I stayed any longer. :gethim:

I am not the only person who thinks he's a total wanker either.

Billy Hyde/Allans music stock MI Audio.

The cleans/bluesy elements of the Megalith were IMHO bad, the crunch was thin and brittle/harsh and the high gain was thick and smooth but with no cut or fire. Even a guy from Deluxe wasn't very complimentary. The clips on YT sound pretty good but in 'the flesh' I was really disappointed as I'd been gasing hard for one...I'd personally take a 5150 or Engl any day. The Iron Lotus is meant to be good though :lol: :LOL:
 
I liked the tones that the MI Audio Revelation gets. Tried it out at winter Namm '08. I understand that it's been updated since then.

Fair enough, my experience has been the total opposite though re: Dale Sherlock and my experience with the Megalith from Mi Audio did not yield the same results that you had. But Thats just from my experience and yours has been different to that.

No worries mate!

I love Dale's gear and alway kept hearing about how he's a great bloke but he was average on the phone and worse in person...even when I was asking to spend money! His wife was standing there shaking her head. I'm not exactly a prick myself and because of this I was surprised how rude he was. When I picked up my amp he was again rude (third time was the charm I guess) and I was seriously annoyed when I left.

Another mate had talked to him before me and later told me what he thought of him at well. Maybe he's under huge pressure and is broke and strung out...it looked that way to me anyway...but man, I would have been putting my hard earned in his pocket.

It could be he is just one of those types that has zero social awareness but like a broken record he kept trying to offer me one of this 15 watt amps (buy one of these...repeated about 5 times) even when I told him repeatedly I was having volume issues even with a 50watter.

When I dealt with Nik from Ceriatone and Simon from Kingsley I realised I needed to forget about boutique builders that aren't timely in regards to correspondence (MI Audio are culprits here...I think he answered one email out of 5...took him two months to get back to me as well) or aren't pleasant to work with.

There are loads of guys doing good jobs that are willing to be pleasant whilst taking your cash IMHO so there is no need to grit your teeth just because they are building something 'special' for you. Nik and Simon would answer emails within 24 hours and were extremely helpful. I can't rate them highly enough.

Everyone I talked to loved the Megalith and because I wasn't sure, I tested two...one at Deluxe and another at Billy Hydes as I really wanted to give it a second chance. I don't know...it was the thickest amp I've ever heard/played but...
 
I haven't heard of these before. I've only heard of and see Ulbrick Amps, they also make dirt pedals.
